The Double Tap Dash being the worst enemy in the game so far is fitting. Pretty sure the HD version has a dedicated run button, but it's been a long time since I've played it.

Double-tap running is also a thing in Kirby games, isn't it? So it wouldn't just be this game and fighting games. Although I believe Kirby tends to stop very quickly once you let go of any direction, unlike Sonic here who seems to keep going for a while (and, of course, falling off a ledge is very rarely actually dangerous in a Kirby game).

The newest Kirby, the 3D one, doesn't have double tap to run and it's really good

Also don't forget about the command dash input in all those Mega Man games, where it kept screwing raocow as well

I noticed a distinct lack of doorbell for that boss fight. Interesting... and easier as a result. Seems to be a recurring theme for this game for the most part. Nothing wrong with that.

Hey, raocow, who wrote "Gaia"? I found what seems like a close match, but not close enough to be sure.

you could just say that xenia can't run it properly yet from start to finish and rpcs3 can, it's not that complicated

at least the video kept it at like three minutes, I feel like most youtubers would somehow inflate this to twenty minutes

Canadians love SEGA-style fonts for sports logos. I think it's probably better than the Walgreens option Americans go for.

raocow, may I request something? If it doesn't happen naturally as you play, I think it would be cool if you picked one Day Stage in HD and tried to S-Rank it. I want to see how you handle boost gameplay if you a) know the stage and b) have to use it to achieve your goal. imo routes that are only reachable by boosting, heavy shortcuts you have to think a little to find and be skilled enough to get to, and so on are integral part of the design and this is probably the most painless way to show this aspect off.

Wait for the HD version unless that's what you're talking about. I have some real good and real bad memories of this game. If you mean the Wii one, it was basically whatever but in that way where you beat it and just shrug before moving on.

one detail i now remember from the Posse's take on this is that for some reason (maybe the in-engine rendering doesn't help) Chip is exponentially more obnoxious in this game than the Dimps version. I actually kinda remember being pissed off at the big reveal, that's how bad it was.

After watching (... skipping through) that pre-rendered opening scene again, it occurs to me how much of a big deal it is that Eggman defeated Super Sonic. He won even more than he did in SA2. The only thing saving Sonic in defeat in Unleashed is the transition over time to (more than before) cartoon physics and personalities. If this were SA2, Sonic would've burned up in the atmosphere after Eggman jettisoned him with the explicit, malicious intent to kill him. It's basically the same scenario of Eggman beating Sonic by catching him off guard, but this time it's Super Sonic rather than regular Sonic. It's also an incredible feat that Eggman apparently has the means to deactivate Super Sonic after capturing him.

Anyway, time to see if that whole "if only Unleashed had only the day stages" song and dance was true. It's looking alright so far! Just gotta wait for cowman to get out of tutorial land. (i know, lol @ implying tutorials in 3D Sonic games ever end, but i can hope)

I think?

That this stage alone is the tutorial.

At least going with what I know, furthest I've gotten in HD is Mazuri, might continue later today.

The shell rendering (for fur; one of the more extreme instances pictured above) seems a bit ... off-tune here. This must be an emulation thing, right? Surely they would have noticed and toned this down on real hardware...? Looking forward to seeing more of it once night falls again in-game, anyway.

Yes, that's considered a tutorial level, but it is literally Apotos Act 1. Don't worry. They get longer. Now the big change to things was shown right at the end. You have actual hubs you can walk around in, and they do have some goodies. Main thing for now is to just have fun, so do whatever at your own pace.
