kurt91 wrote: 7 months ago Today's episode, raocow made an interesting point. I'm pretty sure this game supported motion controls. I mean, you get one button for left-arm attacks, and one button for right-arm attacks during night stages. That sounds pretty much like motion controls mapped to buttons.

raocow, can I make a special request? The next time you have a Werehog level for a video, could you try to play it with Wiimote + Nun-chuck and see if you actually do wind up with "Punch-Out! Stretch Armstrong Edition"?
no offense but that sounds like it plays like complete shit

Hey, raocow, who wrote "The Long Road Ahead?" I've found multiple songs with that name, and none seem to be an exact match.

This is the part where I'd suggest getting a special savefile made instead of grinding medals yourself, mostly out of time concerns.

Thanks! And as for "Traitor's Gate"? I seem to have found everything but the correct recording.

Anytime I see a double tap dash, I want the option to turn it off and would rather ask for a dedicated run/boost button.

Fun Sonic Facts!

Yoshihisa Hashimoto, the Director and Lead Game Designer of Sonic Unleashed stated during development that "the whole development team is aiming to make Sonic Unleashed the best Sonic game ever, and that includes the Genesis-era titles! We hope that even people who haven't played Sonic games will feel 'Wow, Sonic is back!'"

As part of that drive to create the 'best Sonic game', Art Director Sachiko Kawamura began redesigning the Sonic character model, aiming to create the 'ideal' Sonic that fans around the world would love to bits. Moving away from the lanky/possessed mascot model of Sonic 2006, she tried to find a balance between the long limbed, modern design of Sonic the Hedgehog and his short, portly classic appearance in the original titles. One of the biggest changes to the Sonic model was the placement of his mouth, which was now on the side of his face in cutscenes to match the look of his original art, rather than the center as had been the norm in previous 3D games.

For the level designs, each was based on a real life locale, with the driving creative idea being the same as Sonic 06, "what if Sonic were in the real world?" However, they had learned from the mistakes of 06, striving to make the world more cartoony to match Sonic himself.

I don't have any complaints about the setting or the cartoony human stuff. It's the core gameplay and the insistence on doing non-Sonic like gimmicks to pad out the adventure that will always get me. And of course,

it's not like they go back to this well again either

if origins has taught us anything, it's not a sonic game if sonic team hasn't purposefully sabotaged it somehow

it's also not the sonic franchise if

any sort of lesson learning or quality assurance feedback is retained

Edit: Incorrect Info Inside
So it's worth saying, those red monsters are in fact more powerful than the blue ones, AND the wizard there is capable of making them even stronger, both in damage and in defense. With a bunch of already empowered entities being further strengthened all gathered around you like that, their only action is gonna be to smack you, hard, repeatedly.
EDIT: The wizards do NOT in fact buff the monsters.

That's not a thing in the wii version apparently. Hmm.

The red monsters are indeed stronger than blue in almost all ways - they're faster, hit harder, are more durable and more aggressive. They will whomp on you if they're given the opportunity to cluster around you.

Werehog sonic's claws have a decent reach - try not to get too deeply entrenched in the group, and hit from a little further back if a pack looks menacing.

Said it on the video page, but yes. Hold that button down when doing grabbing with the Werehog platforming. This also applies to the HD version, and you'll be thankful for that fact down the road and here.

Noting that the professor looks really weird with his eyebrows growing down his face, we may have to consider that all doctors on Mobius might have insane facial hair growth. Just look at Eggman's stache.

Sonic Team decided early on in development that, after reading the complaints from previous games about how unwieldy their previous player characters had felt to control, they would drop the playable characters in this new game down to one: Sonic. This did have some benefits, as with only one character, all stages could be built around him, his controls and physics could have as much time as possible to be refined, and even better, it would make the game a great starting point for those unfamiliar with the franchise, since they wouldn't need to know who anyone else was. But in order to attract those who had never touched a Sonic before, they needed something new, something wild and untamed to bring them in.

Thus, the Werehog was born. Director Yoshihisa Hashimoto knew from the start this was going to be a contentious idea, but hoped that long-term Sonic fans would understand and empathize with the ideas and direction the team had taken.

...Some would say that hope was ill-founded.

tangentially related, sega could have saved themselves a lot of trouble in the suddenly hd era by making sonic cel-shaded

Unleashed still effectively has two playable characters, they're just both Sonic.

Actually, you did wall jump the first time you did that section!

Still, I feel that it's nice of them to make an optional tutorial for it, since the action is context-dependent and involves multiple buttons.

It's not a raocow playthrough unless that happens once or twice. That said, the stomp/ground pound attack is an instant drop worth using since the air controls even in the games that are getting better here are either pretty slow or too fast.

Nothing to say about the boss fight today since you got that S-Rank on the first try. The Moon Medal count has been catching up to the Sun ones for a while now. About time to change that if it's Werehog time again.

Nobody saying anything, huh? Uh, that was a boss fight last night. I remember it being a little less generous in the HD version. Other than that, it's so weird seeing how the towns are handled in this.

There's really not much to talk about at the moment.

The game's strengths and weaknesses haven't much changed since tectonic plate two.
