raocow better get better at getting past those blue spiked bug enemies, or else he's going to be absolutely screwed when he gets to Sonic 4.

Happy Birthday to Sonic & Knuckles, the day when we would first be able to use Lock-On Technology to play the complete form of Sonic 3.

Super Sonic can only fly sideways, not upwards

Hyper Sonic can go upwards however, but because that's part of his double-jump action, it only works once per jump

MGZ2 boss but instead of flying through the air Sonic jumps on screen from below once every few seconds, good luck

I'd say that this zone essentially didn't exist in Knuckles's playthrough, but it's Carnival Night, so it's probably for the better.

I figured out it was marble garden zone after a lot of thinking but every time I see this my brain is incredibly insistent on processing it as "Metal Gear Zolid 2"

man if knuckles' story really is supposed to be around the same time as sonic's now, it's a good thing he didn't get covered in sonic's mini avalanche

Ok, let's talk casino payouts. Because secretly, you just hit the best thing you could hit.

The payouts work much like a real casino would, except they seem to come up much more often.

First up, we have bar--bar is special 'cause you're rewarded no matter how many appear. In each spin, you get 2^n rings for getting n bars (as long as n is at least 1). This is a minor prize--at best, you win 8 rings for matching all 3

Next up, your regular symbols--Ring, Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic. Those are worth 10, 20, 25, and 30 rings respectively, if you match all 3.

Jackpot works as a "wild x2" for those four symbols. It will match with any of them, and double your payout. So, "Jackpot sonic sonic" would match as 3 sonics (worth 30), and double it to 60. "Jackpot Sonic Jackpot", which you got here, matches as 3 sonics (worth 30), doubles it to 60, then doubles it AGAIN to 120.

3 jackpots gives the jackpot prize of 100, and 3 robotnik's gives the anti-prize of -100. Jackpots, despite being wild, can't match robotnik, so that's nice.

Glad the Knuckles run is going on a per zone deal here. Makes for longer play sessions, but at least it doesn't feel like it's dragging on.

i'm betting it's just like with Enguarde in Donkey Kong Country, he's pronouncing French loanwoards the "English" way and overcorrecting

(course, people do pronounce it both ways in the case of 'guillotine' so)

honestly going per zone has been pretty fun so I'm kinda wondering about making that regular going forward
like with the 3D games that doesn't change anything but there are a lot of 2D games left with multiple acts per zones and stuff, right

I feel like there was more exploration in the per act run of Sonic 3, so I think it would still make sense for any other game where you need to explore big acts for chaos emeralds (thinking of Mania in particular). I'm not sure if it would matter for the various other 2d games though.

Some of the latter 3D games start using the zones with multiple acts. Sonic Colo(u)rs Wii has 6 acts per zone, plus an extra for the boss, I think. Sonic Unleashed can have anywhere from 3-6 acts per zone, although they might not all be played consecutively if I remember, it's been a while.

Heroes technically has 7 zones with two acts each, they just aren't labelled as such

Not that I'd ever ask for multiple heroes stages in a row, they're already long enough

That LP is gonna be a thing for sure, if raocow actually plays all four stories, omg
