Okay, so I knew I wasn't going to be surprised by Sonic's appearance because it was spoiled by thumbnails in the related videos list. But I never would've guessed that it was actually (a) Super (variant of) Sonic! I figured it would be a "Dark Sonic" thing that appears behind the door as the true final boss. But nope, this Mephiles-looking guy is just Sonic. Seriously, with this game's proximity to 2006, I wonder if it was popular to somehow relate this form of Sonic to Mephiles in fan fiction. And my first impression of his weird voice thing was "wait, he's Vector now?".

But I gotta say, I love how ridiculously much DBZ energy this hedgehog and fight in general are radiating. I know there have been plenty of jokes about Erazor being a DBZ character, but I didn't expect it to result in this!

Dark Brotherhood might be worse. But I don't know that game.

As far as why Sonic wished for a mountain of hankys, he just dislikes tears.

Everyone knows Sonic's a good guy, but no one said he had to be nice about it. I forgot the detail of Sonic pitching the lamp into the lava just in case, which is even more savage than the parts I did remember.
Also, the shiny new super form. Because the wrong person got sacrificed Erazor only got to power up with some of the world rings, leaving sonic to power up with the rest. Specifically, Sonic was running on RAGE, SORROW and HATRED. Thus, Darkspine Sonic was born, the edgiest and graveliest of super forms. Makes for a great boss fight so long as you win in like 1 or 2 tries. Certanly interesting in comparison to the usual super boss fight where Sonic just tanks everything because invincible, Darkspine is extremely vulnerable despite his power and rage.
Also, Alf Layla Wa-Layla translates as "One Thousand and One Nights". He's speaking literally when he says he is the Arabian Nights.

To play devil's advocate, the games never go into the exact details of their relationship, and as such it is open to interpretation.

Hey, fair warning raocow, you'll need to grab a save file for this part, since unlocks here are tied to Fire Souls, and that unlockable mode is what I would define as a major attraction. Plus there's also a hidden unlockable attraction in the record area that requires all the Fire Souls.
