All the S@nics - the end
Re: All The S@nics - Spinball - Going Full Tilt
Something about the aesthetic makes this feel more like watching a Metroid game to me of all things. Maybe it's just the first level, though.

I don't think i've ever gotten more than 2 emeralds in this level.
Also please play that menu music as loud as you can next time for the real Spinball experience.

by far the best thing about this game is that cool display at the top that's emulating the digital displays on pinball tables

fun sonic facts: yes the aminals saved in the bonus stage include characters from the satam cartoon. there are a few examples of adaptation things getting put back into the games throughout the series
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

i've always liked spinball despite the Many Evident Things about it and not even having the excuse of being good enough at it to get past the first level
i thought i'd have more to say about it but
i don't

If I'm not mistaken this is Rotor, Sally Acorn and Bunnie Rabbot's only appearances in a Sonic game (outside of comics in collection galleries), and it's Sally's old weird pink design from extremely early Archie (and not SatAM).
The dog might be Muttski.
The chimp is presumably Wocky or a SatAM character based on it.

I think I made it past the next board a few times, but that was usually the best I could do. Game is very tough at times. I think you can
hold the flipper button down to keep it permanently raised, basically making it a brake for Sonic if you need to gather yourself
. Then again, it's been so long since I've played the game that I've forgotten its mechanics.- BobisOnlyBob

probably should've posted part 2 when sonic 2 was happening, so here's parts 2 and 3
Re: All The S6nics - Spinball - Going Full Up
Oh, man, Spinball! Here's one of the games I had back in the day as a kid, too. Never did beat it on a Genesis, as the last level is *super* tough. Always loved the look and music of The Machine a lot, though, it's probably my favorite level, with Lava Powerhouse being a close second.
Didn't even knew there was a GG version until a couple years ago. Man, it's pretty... rough.
Surprised you didn't know that you can use the barrels in the Toxic Caves as a little boat to jump over to the emerald. The way you did it works pretty well for having them serve as a failsafe if you fall through the flippers on the second level, so kudos for that.
@Lion if anything, The Machine re-uses concept art for "Cyber City/Genocide City Zone" from the early Sonic 2 prototypes. I've always wondered what Metropolis Zone 3 would look like with a tileset based off The Machine, since, that's pretty much what it should've been from the get-go.

Re: All The S@nics - Spinball - Going Full Tilt
This was a game I played with my cousins as a kid. The Genesis was before our time but there happened to be one in their attic. My guess is that my uncle bought it on impulse at a yard sale.
So while talking to my aunt a few months ago, I remembered that we had played this game, so I asked her if the Genesis was still around. I hadn't seen it in years, and figured if no one was using it I'd buy it off them. She said that a few years ago she felt an urge to purge the house and had sold the Genesis. Everyone in the room looked at her as though she had three heads; apparently I wasn't the only one wondering why I hadn't seen the Genesis in years.
On a note relating more directly to the game; man, that first boss is way creepier looking than I was prepared for.

sure having the satam characters randomly cameo in the bonus stages doesn't make much sense but it makes even less sense that tails is stuck in there too when he was totally fine and free in the intro a few seconds ago

Re: All The S@nics - Spinball - Going Full Tilt
It kinda does make sense, the satam characters were loosely based on the animal friends from the original game. So it's like you're saving the animal friends from a capsule like you do at the end of each zone, they're just these specific ones instead (and a few normal animal friends too)

Re: All The S@nics - Spinball - Going Full Tilt
Hey raocow, I used to play pinballs a lot as a kid, so I know how to maneuver the flippers. I'll give you a tip, it's really hard to have a good aim and precision shots in this game. So try as much as possible to stabilize Sonic before shooting, try to lift both flippers so Sonic will bounce and eventually stop moving. Then realease the flipper he is standing on and shoot when he is a bit before the middle of the flipper, you can aim to a much closer angle. You can also just lift one to make him change sides.
Also the game is pretty hard and you rarely get lives or continues, so try to use a savestate at each world if possible.
I like to watch those videos. But remember this game physics is different from reality so try to meddle with it until you feel good.

Fun Sonic Facts!
With the release of Sonic 3 already vastly behind schedule, SEGA needed something to tide fans over and keep the success of their Sonic 2uesday idea going. Therefore, upper management came up with a bright idea: create a smaller spin-off game inspired by Casino Night Zone of Sonic 2.
The idea was shopped around the company, and in mere days a short animated sequence was pitched by Peter Morawiec, Kurt Peterson and Justin Chin called "Sonic Pinball". Recycling graphics from Sonic 2 (something that would be very apparent within the final product), the demo features elements from what would become Toxic Caves, though sporting entirely different graphics and music.
Though their work was incredible, this rush would soon be emblematic of the game in other ways, as even with lightning fast approval, production began at the start of spring with a strict timeline of roughly 5 months from prototype to finished game...
