Re: A Little Under Half The S@nic Heroes - Advance 3 - ROPA 3.333: You Can (Not) Do It Alone
Although I think this special stage took me more attempts than the Cyber Track special stage, I almost found this one to be easier, albeit that's mostly because I got a good amount of practice jumping on enemies in the previous special stage (I did still have a bit to learn in that regard, most notably that it helps to position the plane much lower than you would think is necessary).
As for collecting keys, I think Chaos Angel might actually be the easiest zone to collect keys in thanks to act 3. It's completely linear so you don't have to worry about taking the correct route, and it takes less than three minutes to beat. And by using a flying character to skip some of the waiting (including a rather significant part of the second platform ride) you can get that time down to less than two minutes. Incidentally, flying through act 3 is one of the things I remembered from the first time I played this game, and I think it must be because this is where I collected keys as a kid. As for present day me, I personally enjoy having a bit of downtime between attempts, as I imagine just going at it again and again could get tiresome after a while.

Nonaggression lives up to its moniker since that looked like one of the simplest Super Sonic battles out there in terms of what can stop you. Also, I think this is it for the Dreamcast voice actors because we're entering a new era.

Fun Sonic Facts!
Sonic Advance 3 is the last game in which the original English voice actors reprise their roles for Sonic, Eggman, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Cream before they were replaced with the 4Kids Entertainment voice actors from Sonic X.

So, fun fact: I looked up the two Rush games on Wiki, and for some reason an idiot decided to edit the latter game's plot the other day to replace one of the characters in the plot with...P.W. Botha.
Like, if the goal was to be offensive...sure? Good job, I guess? But whatever trolling they were trying to do was so obtuse it kind of just fell flat on its face and shit its own bed
I mean, c'mon...you even trying anymore
(and yes, I undid the edits and marked it as vandalism)

Earlier I mentioned that I had to look up how to unlock the other characters because I never played with Sonic as the leader; it turns out that even though I collected all the chaos emeralds as a kid I never fought this boss for the aforementioned reason. I kind of wish they had some kind of indication that you have to play as Sonic, or better yet, let these things trigger regardless of who you're playing as (or at least let them trigger with Sonic as the partner).
Anyway, this boss seems pretty easy for a true final boss. There are a lot of rings, so if you just start running low it's easy to get your ring count back up by just taking a bit of time to focus on collecting rings rather than attacking.
Given that Cream doesn't really show up much in the more recent Sonic games I like that this ending sequence puts the spotlight on her. It's also nice to just finally see this ending at all since I never saw it as a kid.

I've heard rumors that SEGA thought she was an anime character, so they didn't want to pollute the games with people like Chris Thorndyke et al. and she was wrongly assumed to be in the same categoryLunarRainbowShyGuy wrote: ↑3 years ago Earlier I mentioned that I had to look up how to unlock the other characters because I never played with Sonic as the leader; it turns out that even though I collected all the chaos emeralds as a kid I never fought this boss for the aforementioned reason. I have definitely heard in passing about Cream's character rights being partially owned by TV Tokyo - possibly just broadcast rights or something? - but regardless, there's definitely confusion behind her design as she was designed "for" Sonic X first. It's a bit like Nintendo's reticence to use Waluigi because he was made by the second-party studio Camelot - wasn't in-house so there's less confidence about integrating them as eagerly, even though they continue to be referenced.

Not to point fingers at any particular person (except for the Nintendo RD1 story and Inafune), but I've heard murmurings that a lot of creators/teams/companies don't like to use characters not created by them not only for the legal reasons you mentioned, but just because "they're not mine". Either disliking how poorly-done the other people made them, or that bad feeling of playing with said established character, story, and appearance - or being FORCED to do so.BobisOnlyBob wrote: ↑3 years agoI have definitely heard in passing about Cream's character rights being partially owned by TV Tokyo - possibly just broadcast rights or something? - but regardless, there's definitely confusion behind her design as she was designed "for" Sonic X first. For example, the Mario Land 2 development team (Nintendo RD1) created Wario as a parody of Mario because they were sick of having to make a game all about someone they didn't even design. You can see that most of Mario Land 1 and 2 are really wacky and creative, so it makes sense that they'd hold a grudge over being told "this HAS to have Mario, mushrooms, coins, pipes, and Goombas in it" when they had all these other ideas that didn't involve cloning SMB3/SMW. Of course they had the last laugh as they then continued on to develop their own 100% Wario game.
This story doesn't have as much proof as the above, but Rockman and Forte 2 (you know, that really bad Wonderswan one?) was developed by Bandai, the creators of that system. About 15 years later, Capcom explicitly forbid any of that game's Robot Masters from even being referenced in the comic. (A few of them appeared in ZX Advent as cameos/mentions, but I'm not sure whether that was a localization thing that got overlooked).
Finally, Keiji Inafune has explicitly mentioned that he designed Zero to be cooler and steal all the good scenes from Mega Man X... you know, the guy in the title? He was going to present Zero as the "Mega Man X" design but he worried Capcom wouldn't accept it and pitched him as a side character - one of his coworkers designed the actual Mega Man X character. What a side character, given that he always takes over the plots! It's always oh Zero kept Vile from whooping X's ass, oh Zero sacrificed himself to keep Vile from whooping X's ass again, oh Zero's corpse's parts got stolen, oh Zero gets an antivirus in his sword and prevents Sigma's corporeal virus form from infecting X, oh Zero's girlfriend died, oh Zero gave Sigma the Maverick Virus, oh Zero destroys Eurasia or becomes a maverick, oh Zero prevents Sigma from whooping X's ass and dies, oh Zero has a flashback about Dr. Wily, oh Gate created a Zero-shaped virus and near-invincible robot from Zero's robo-DNA, oh X is retired after all that garbage and it's time for Zero to rescue some reploids and give X his fighting spirit back. That's SEVEN GAMES of Zero trying desperately to remain important in a series that isn't even named after him - all this is before he even GOT his own series! As a digression, I'm surprised people show revulsion at the idea of shipping X and Zero given that X has talks and thinks about Zero ALL THE TIME and Iris was only created for one game to give Zero something to cry about.
The point is, not only do legal issues play a part, but people get (understandably) attached to characters they did make and detached from characters they didn't make. It's not exactly fair to the characters, but I do have to admit it's not exactly fair for an author to write about a character they have zero attachment to either.
If Cream wasn't designed by Sonic Team or Dimps, that means nobody feels like she's their "baby"; nobody remembers the process for designing her, her abilities, and her role in the plot; nobody knows the person who designed her personally. I don't think the post-Sonic Chronicles treatment of Cream was a purposeful closet-shoving of her character, but just that the circumstances behind her creation made it easy for the actual GAME creators to forget to even put her in.

Re: All The S@nics - Mega Collection Plus Mini - YOU CANNOT ESCAPE GREEN HILL
The vast majority of anyone working on a long established Brand did not create the characters they are using, though. There's really only a few supervisors overseeing the Sonic series, not like every character designer and game designer is still working on Forces or whatever.
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

That's why they outsourced the Forces main character design to the players, it makes perfect sense actually

Re: All The S@nics - Mega Collection Plus Mini - YOU CANNOT ESCAPE GREEN HILL
Apparently part of the reason the Persona series doesn't often reference anything from before 3 is because the writers of those games left Atlus and the current staff just doesn't want to trample on what they left? So characters from those games are only ever referenced through offhand mention or as costumes.
Anyway go donate to patapon so raocow can buy Mega Collection Plus or we cant finish all the sonics!!!!

Oh, the writer who put a player-participating gay relationship option in Persona 2-2 left? That explains a lot about Persona 4/5's relationship options.Blivsey wrote: ↑3 years ago Apparently part of the reason the Persona series doesn't often reference anything from before 3 is because the writers of those games left Atlus and the current staff just doesn't want to trample on what they left?
