That's true, originally he only even started playing the other 3 missions to train himself up for each level's hard mode, and now he wants to get hard mode out of the way so he can deal with the actual hard ones after.

I find it interesting that raocow said he felt it was better to go to the central area to travel between the different coloured areas, because I want to say my strategy was the complete opposite: I would travel around the outer corridors and only go to the center when I wanted to travel between the green and blue areas. Either way, this place is kind of awkward to look for keys in; thanks to the corridor connecting the red area to the central area there's not an easy loop you can use to explore the entire level.

Also, while it has been a long time since I played this game, I want to say that Knuckles can just punch those spike ball enemies without getting hit by them, and I think the same is true for the fire enemies. I certainly don't remember running around like a chicken near these enemies just to get some rings.

raocow's strategy is correct tho; the side-corridors are not straight lines and are fairly long to go through, plus usually have one thing or another that forces you to stop instead of the easy main corridors that are all straight shots with maybe a door switch to hit at most, plus the center room is one of the four regions keys can be hidden in. my strat here is always to beeline to the center then check the side-rooms from there, and if all else fails dig into the corridors, but there's some keys (including any that involve the secret side rooms) that are basically impossible to find with this method because the map isn't quite connected in physical space the way it tries to lay itself out

The hidden area here is kind of creepy, it's like this super secret chamber that was just sealed off and buried through an underwater passage forever
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

it's kinda interesting, there are murals with pictures of chao, which is used only for the pyramid levels, but in other levels they're only used in one spot, in front of the chao.
the secret chamber has them all over the place wherever there'd be a door
and of course, chaos is a water god

idk maybe i'm reading too much into it but it's one of my favourite places in the game

(also the underwater part being loosely an upside-down version of the temple-like "main" room at the top is pretty neat)

I never understood why so many people seemed to dislike Tails, but having finally experienced the 3D/voice acting era of Sonic games, i can now say i understand it. He's still my favorite Sonic character just because the Genesis games were the only Sonic anything i knew at all for a long time, and in the Genesis era his defining characteristics are pretty much that he's adorable and can fly. (Even in Tails' Adventure, where he is already being portrayed as an Eldritch Abomination, there is no indication that he understands or cares what is going on around him, so he's still adorable.)

I also never fully grasped the concept that Sonic was associated with actual plot, but that has finally begun sinking in as well.

The mechanic that brushing up against an edge of a platform instantly sends you plummeting down at mach speed is so fully idiotic

Most platformers have some sort of wiggle room for literal edge cases like this, e.g. Mario 64 pushes Mario up on a platform in such a way that stairs are possible (they are low enough that he just teleports on top due to the always-present mercy mechanic), or of course you just get a hanging mechanic which uuuh kinda exists for the needlemouses but they apparently didn't want to bother with the mechs

despite even Tails being fully capable of supporting his own weight + the mech's when hanging onto a pulley

It's obviously still consistent and the platforms actually still have a lot of leeway for you to reach them (just by virtue of placement), but the terrible camera, unintuitive hover mechanics, clunky 3D movement COMBINED with the blatant "fuck you, you fall now" just combine to make it extremely frustrating.

For what it's worth, Tails was my favorite character growing up too, and despite still liking him I'm having a great time laughing at how much raocow hates him for all the trouble he's putting him through.
