it's not properly the anniversary, is it? sonic chaotix zoomed through like 30 videos in half as many days. unless a yearaversary isn't an anniversary and is instead 350 days long and i missed the memo
call me reecer6, not reecer7, please! gotta maintain that same internet brand. actually i'm cro-iba now, it's cooler

One of the emerald hiding spots in this level is inside those giant floating rubble chunks, I got that the other day.

So the "around the six pillars" one probably was one of those. You have to just lazily glide into them to shatter them, it's pretty awkward.

I've heard that at least for the US version some.of the emerald hints are swapped relative to their locations or just flat out mistranslated sometimes

I was wondering how raocow was going to do in one of these treasure hunting stages, and he did fairly well. And even though he died a bunch on the timed mission, on his winning run he managed to do it without using hints, and with plenty of time to spare. Of course this level and Dry Lagoon are by far the smallest of these stages, so I have a feeling this trend might not continue in the later stages.

I realize the singer had to write the lyrics like, in an afternoon, but the lyrics for the Knuckles themes always make me wonder why anyone would allow those to be released. They're just... so terrible, universally.

I for one genuinely love all of the Knuckles themes.

Anyway, I find it pretty interesting how hard mode in these stages has the emerald shards in fixed locations. I also remember having a hard time finding some of them, but I want to say I never had to look up the location of any of them. Then again, although these days I'll basically never look up a guide to see how to beat a game, when I first played this game I had yet to develop that mindset, and it was so long ago that I don't really remember.

The lyrics for all the knuckle themes are the best part of the whole Sonic franchise, what do you mean.

I've always felt that the "collect 100 rings" missions should be later in the mission chain due to the fact that you can lose all your progress just by getting hit once, which often effectively means that you have to do a no damage run of a large portion of the stages unless you manage to get your hands on a shield. Although I'm not sure if any of the treasure hunting stages even have shields that can be found without just randomly getting one by digging. Fortunately though, with the wide open nature of these stages, it isn't too difficult to just avoid any dangerous enemies.

Fun fact: normally you can randomly get rings just by digging, but they removed the chance of that for the 100-ring mission. Gee, wonder why

I think it'd be hilarious if he finishes all the missions, then immediately goes to the next game.

i like the progression the way it is, actually

1. you're new to this, so have fun
2. okay, you know this level now; but have you -really- explored it?
3. prove you've explored it. find this well-hidden thing. should be easy, right?
4. damn, you must really know the level well by now, right? do it, but quickly
5. now that you know the level so well, we've introduced a laundry list of changes to throw you off. enjoy

When you put it like that it does seem quite logical to have it this way. And now that I think about it, I feel like my opinion may be somewhat tainted by the fact that kid me wasn't too great at the whole 'not getting hit' thing. Thinking about it, I must have been less than 10 years old when I first played this game, at which point I definitely had room for improvement when it came to playing video games. If I were to play this game for the first time now I'd probably have a much easier time with the 100 ring missions than I did when I was young.

Anyway, I mentioned earlier that some emerald shards in these hard mode missions gave me a lot of trouble, and the last one here is one of them. Actually, I think I may not have even had the treasure scope when I first attempted this, and it is very much required here, unlike the similar one in Wild Canyon where I believe it's possible to get it without the spring if you come at it at the perfect angle.

Also, it looks like raocow found the underwater room here. There's not much here except a pointless spring (and I think an emerald shard can appear here in normal mode), but there's something I like about this place. Actually I kind of really like this stage and Wild Canyon in general; I like the feeling of exploring these old ruin type areas, and although these may not be my favourite levels, I feel like I'm going to miss them now that raocow's done with them.

Treasure Scope can help a lot with ring missions too but only if the devs want it to

source: just spent fifteen minutes in a certain level before suddenly finding about twenty more rings than i needed to finish
