Fun Sonic Facts!

This game was developed for SEGA by Hudson, the same developers that created Mario Party! While the game sold fairly well, it was absolutely savaged by critics, with common refrains including too-long load times, extremely unfair AI, promised online multiplayer that never actually happened, confusingly explained minigames,, and worst of all, a mediocre manual.

Funner Sonic Fact!

This is the only piece of official Sonic media where Sonic and Knuckles have the same voice actor.

Sonic Shuffle really feels like SEGA went up to Hudson Soft and said "hey, make us a Mario Party - but Sonic...except actually don't make it like Mario Party at all beyond the vague concept of 'board game where you can play mini-games' because we're SEGA and we can't go flattering Nintendo by copying them."

I appreciate the effort to make something different, but different for the sake of different doesn't always work out well.

I don't think this game is as bad as people say it is, but story mode really shows off it's worst aspects. The cheating AI, the entirely too long default ruleset, long load time with added cutscenes for more loading, nevermind how stupidly long some of those cutscenes can run for, and the already limited roster is cut in half since you can't use the unlockable characters.

I just thought of something. Can you progress in Story Mode while playing with more than one person? If raocow's playing this on emulator, couldn't he just set up four players, and just intentionally make three of them lose? Like, Sonic is controlled via one controller, and the other three players are all mapped to a second controller or keyboard. raocow can play comfortably using his controller, and it doesn't matter how hard it is to play as the other three, since they're intended to be screwed over anyways.

The rules say he has to play "All the Sonics". Nothing ever said he had to play fair. Besides, this isn't a mainline game anyways, and the intention is really just showing everything off.

This has to be the record for longest collective video time in one day for raocow's LPs, right?

Watched the hourlong episode of Sonic Shuffle... it was quite something of an entertainment. A quest to figure out the rules as you go, and swim through the flaws apparent in the game.

Too bad we won't see Lumina again after this game

Unfortunately Story mode is single player only, so no shenanigans.
Some tips for raocow, you can always see your spaces left till the star stone on your turn, that's what the game means by SPACE:X along the bottom there. The cards along the side are what's been played so far, there's 3 S cards, 1 Eggman, and 4 each of the number cards so you can estimate your odds of pulling the right card when stealing from another player. Every board has a sidequest you can do which is worth a bonus star stone. Don't ask me what they are for the upcoming boards but I do know it always involves the !? space everyone loved landing on uselessly, for the first board you needed to land on the space next to the dolphin lying off the board to pick him up and then bring him to the !? space. And as far as I remember the game always uses all the star stone spaces once in a 7 stone game, the first 6 are random but the last one is always in the most obvious Last Space for max dramatic tension. And most importantly, in the rare case a dual game pops up, winning the most duels is also a bonus star stone, even if some players never played in a duel, so be sure to factor that in to your calculations.

The VMU simply hides your own cards on the TV and shows them on the VMU instead, as if you were playing a real card game and holding your cards away from your opponents so they cant screencheat your hand.

This would actually be worse for raocow's purpose since he's up against cheater CPUs anyway who know what his hand is with or without the VMU, and we the viewers wouldn't be able to see his hand on-screen.

By the way, the shuffle function simply rearranges the cards in your hand instantly. This just makes it very annoying for other players to select what's in your hand if none of you have VMUs since your cards shift rapidly. (you can see this if an item is used that reveals a cpu's hand and you try to pick one of their cards - their hand will go bonkers)

I don't think the first 6 are random. The middle 5 might be, I'm not sure, and maybe on most maps the first 6 are....but I can tell you for objective fact that the first precioustone space on emerald coast is always that one 10 spaces away from the start. Always.

Absolutley not! That's the whole point of having your own hand, otherwise there would just be a collective deck to take from.

The VMU is used so that if you're playing on multiplayer against friends, they CAN'T see your hand--it's not visible even on your own turn, you've gotta look at the VMU to know your hand.

There's actually some really good ideas put into this game. It's just a shame that the execution is so poor.

Being dealt a hand of cards to replace the die rolling is a brilliant idea. It adds a little strategy to the game while still allowing you to steal a random card from another player to keep that hilarious Take That aspect of Mario Party. It'll never happen, but I would love to see that mechanic in a future Mario Party game.

Now that it won't spoil anything for me to draw attention to this, I do hope you weren't going for a Sebby19-style hint. raocow generally appreciates discovering stuff on his own, and would at least prefer it to happen off-camera than to have it spoiled. If he genuinely doesn't get it, he'll usually ask for help or, if it's postgame stuff like this he'll ask if there's any postgame stuff after he finishes the main content if it's a game he's liking.

Oh wow, never seen any footage of this game and that's a load of hot garbage.

A painful experience to watch, can't imagine playing it is much better. Is the experience any better with actual people?

I feel like I can see this being okay with four human friends. playing cards is a bit more fair than relying on a dice, it,s something you can plan around. but it stops working when you play with the computer.

After raocow said he was actively dreading playing this, i was optimistic seeing the video was over an hour because i thought that meant he powered through the whole game to get it out of the way. I miss that naivete now.

i dunno guys, between getting to see dreamcast-era cutscenes i've never seen before, to the awesome designs of the gem monsters, i kind of like this game lol.

think it's pretty shitty to assert that beaches are inherently good and ice is inherently bad though. we all have our opinions on temperature!!!!
