This reminds me my dad used to own a trackball mouse. Like, a mouse with a trackball instead of a scrollwheel.

Wonder what happened to it. Maybe it's catching dust in storage. Would it even work with modern hard/software? And would I ever consider it novel enough to play SegaSonic with it rather than just mapping the trackball to arrow keys or an analog stick???

Regarding the popcorn game. Is it just me, or does the silhouette around the title of the machine look like a cartoon poop?

Not sure about this kind that has one for a scrollwheel but they definitely make mice where you roll a ball instead of moving the mouse physically. My 8th grade teacher had one.

for raocow to go to walmart or someplace and buy a trackball mouse. the game was designed to be controlled with a trackball, and using a regular mouse does not work at all (as seen)

Yeah, while this trainwreck so far has been pretty funny, if we're still playing this next week I'd appreciate switching to a slightly more manageable control setup. Going out of the way to buy a specialist controller seems a bit much though - trying a tablet or arrow keys definitely seems like a much better idea.

It also kinda reminds me of the top of an icecream cone, which makes me think this part of the machine may have been remodeled from a self-serve icecream machine/game.

"Fun" Sonic Facts!

In the Archie continuity, the setting of SegaSonic the Hedgehog isn't portrayed as an obstacle course, rather, it's a slave labor camp.
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

It's cool that raocow can play the thing now, but there's gotta be some sort of gimmick. I suggest using a DDR pad instead of the arrow keys.

I can see how this game would be a lot of fun just spinning a ball all day long.

"all day" as if this game (or your quarter supply) isn't done in like half an hour

The dumb looney tune "path painted on a wall" thing that hits you out of nowhere in this level makes me laugh every time, even if the painting itself only makes sense from the camera's position

Sonic's wacky dying/taking damage animations are giving be Crash Bandicoot vibes. Which probably isn't appropriate to say as the game predates Crash.

I'm an ant. Days go by quickly.

I don't know how much sense this idea makes or if it's even possible, but it might be better if you could map the diagonals to a single key.
Like instead of pressing "UP+LEFT" to go in that direction, you just pressed left.
I would map it like this is that were to be possible:
UP+LEFT= LEFT
UP+RIGHT= UP
DOWN+RIGHT= RIGHT
DOWN+LEFT= DOWN

Obviously, I would only do this if the game were to register the combination of inputs as a halfway point of those inputs, otherwise you would be losing a few directions. Even then, I doubt controlling the game would get easier.

Man there's something absolutely chaotic and horrifying about this game. Like, you're not just going forward and dodging the obstacles to get to the end of the level, it's like you're being constantly pursued by death itself a la Final Destination. Sonic is in a perpetual state of trying to not be brutally slaughtered by the world around him, never getting a break as he runs from one horrible catastrophic failure to another.

I never played this game, but I suspect that the game controls a little different than raocow is used to. I think that if you press UP - you go forward. In other words: if Sonic face down, after pressing UP he will go forward, in other words down. If Sonic face left - then after pressing UP he will go left etc. I think you change direction of his movement by pressing LEFT/RIGHT.

That would explain why raocow died on rafts - he was facing down, so after pressing UP Sonic went forward - down. I never played this game, so I may be wrong though.

It also probably doesn't help that using the keyboard makes it so you don't have any type of analog control over your speed. I mean, I figure the speed at which you were rotating the ball on the arcade cabinet corresponded to the speed the character would've been going at, and right now I can only imagine raocow is playing at 100% speed all the time.

Yeah, everything I've read says that you need to play with some sort of trackball or you'll just have an incredibly terrible time.

I'm wondering how well an analogue stick would cope now... :slow:

I've been very surprised to see a Sonic game with 3D movement have iffy controls at times... Okay, I just wanted to say that one now. Uh yeah, this one's on not having the right kind of controller for it more than the game itself. It happens. Glad it's almost near the end at least!
