If I was playing the game myself, I would have quit after seeing you had to jump from a 1 tile tunnel. Thankfully the game lets you skip that level.

I never understood why 45º slopes were slippery (especially if you're coming from SMB3). That is my biggest criticism of base SMW.

Um, hello? It was wa's decision to make that level, and leave it in with the quirk?

All talk about "let's blame the tools not the author" is downright idiotic. Last I checked, the author gets the final say about what the players get to play. If the guy leaves it in, either it went under his curation radar, or he left it in deliberately. "Bad tools" are not a valid excuse.

The level is the level, that's fine, nothing is going to change that now; but let's not shift responsibility in a pathetic defense. I'm pretty sure the decision to keep the level in as it was is deliberate, and so making that defense argument only serves to undermine what the author wanted to accomplish.


In fact, here's a way better defense of the author: Hack knows its niche. It was made to anger and be sadistic. What the author's mistake *actually* was; not making it clear enough that the jokes early in the game were 100% made at the expense of the player. It wasn't made to be chopped down into a director's cut viewing experience by someone who must put out 3 high-quality commentated gameplay videos a day on youtube. The author also did not choose to have raocow play his hack.

I meant to explain why there would be no corners on the custom block by saying the japanese man used a japanese tool when btsd or whatever else was available. (It is possible he used btsd but made the corners empty on purpose--now that's what I call sadism.) There is no intention of 'defence' (unless it be in the notion 'Tout comprendre, c'est tout pardonner.') In fact:---

This scrapped idea level was untypically precise for this hack; it was uncomfortably long; and the toughest of the four part of the level was the final one. It almost seems as though the troll was that you attempted the level at all. I thought it was the worst level in the entire hack, but there are a few more things I did not care for (e.g there was a part at the end of a switch palace that I am not sure can be beaten reliably). Because of these things, I am not sure that I entirely 'trust' wago as a designer. Still, caveat raocor: savestates may make things harder sometimes (e.g. you can easily collect the mushroom at the end of the p-balloon room).

i nope'd out of this game after the third video and seeing the comments on this latest level i am not regretting that decision
honestly i don't watch most SMW hacks anymore because 90% of the time they look like unfun garbage lol

I figured that "sensible midpoints" would need to be placed ever since I saw FT saying that he didn't beat all the levels. It looks to be extremely difficult to maintain a consistent pace in this hack without savestates.

Normally I'm prime against savestates since it cheats the outlook of the game in the author's favor. This hack is an exception, I think.

This stage is pretty Haimari tier, honestly this

and one level later on

are the low points of the hack.
Don't feel bad about savestates, or like even skipping the stage.

You get to skip this level for a great reason. I didn't beat this level until I finished world 4, because I got frustrated after an hour and didn't want to look back. Getting a mushroom in the final room helps a LOT, but it still feels like a roulette.

The next level up (infuriating tower) is one of my favorites, and so are the next few levels. :D

I never beat that switch palace after failing the turn block part several times.

yeah, I was referencing that, swapping out the swear he used for "garbage"

I both loved and hated watching this level. Loved because I LOVED how the snake block put down different blocks depending on location instead of being a straight snake block that put down the same block every time.

Hated because it gets way too precise towards the end. :( It's not fun having to replay EVERYTHING just for making one mistake.

That snake is pretty cool. I'd like to see something like that implemented in a less trolly hack, probably with a slower snake.
