Hell Temple is be like: "I'mma gonna end this man's whole career"

I thought the inifinite lava pit was below Viy's boss room. I guess that was the case in the original?

Original also has Viy go right to Chamber of Extinction, if that's what you mean
I'm an idiot who likes vidya games.
And also maybe makes bad decisions based on those vidya games.

Yes, but during the Hell unlocking process that entrance is swapped with this one-time sub-area. I think that is what the original did, if my memory is right.

Correct, that's how it works in Classic. Classic does not have the step with the Gate of Time -- the infinite lava pit and and "jump into a huge coffin" are separate steps. The hint for the infinite lava pit is
"Cross the fields without using any warps." This hint BAFFLED me at first, but it turns out that what it means is to cross between different areas without using door/ladder transitions or teleports. There are two places this can happen in Classic: falling from Temple of the Sun to Twin Labyrinths, or falling from Inferno Cavern to Chamber of Extinction. It turns out the be the latter. (BTW, Remake adds a third simple transition, following the water from Spring in the Sky to Surface. In Classic that was once-only on defeating Bahamut, in Remake it's repeatable.)
As for "jump into a huge coffin", in Classic that takes you instantly to the little corner in Tower of the Goddess, no intermediary step.

But regardless of version, yeah the Hell Temple hints are SUPER obtuse IMO. They all make sense in retrospect, but I would have NEVER figured them out without a guide.

The good news with Hell Temple is that it appears someone has found a use for all the skeletons lying around La-Mulana; turning them into decorative arches.

So do none of the skeletons leading up the Hell Temple's entrance (both 8-bit and new), say anything? It's not clear if raocow tried scanning any of them.

I like how they give up all pretense of cause-and-effect for this sequence. Mulbruk's dad is just giving you hide-and-go-seek riddles, and arbitrarily modifying the world to hide his magic gravestone.

It's just a shame that raocow found the Fairy clothes.

No, that find will make for a more enjoyable experience for raocow in there. This is the good timeline.

Much like Dio, he has multiple gravestones. /s

I think in Classic he left ancient PCs lying around which is even weirder.

Very good progress today.

My preferred method for handling the small bomb-throwing blob enemies - especially that one Land of Hell that's full of them - is

Chakram, which kills them in one hit and can scythe through a whole row of them in a single throw.

So Hell Temple got changed between Classic and Remake, I see. I beat Classic's Hell Temple years ago but never managed to unlock the Remake's version. All of this is brand new to me and wow a lot of this stuff is really rude when you have access to more modern visuals and sprite usage to pour projectiles and moving traps at the player. That bird room that gave you the most trouble looks like it might have been a little bit easier if you used the katana to underswing at the lower bird as it comes back, but I'm not sure. Plus the bird at the top looked more like the kind to use the whip on.

I'd recommend getting a green fairy if you can, and stocking up on some coins to replenish ammo.

No joke, the giant fist in Hell Temple is legit my favorite thing in the entire game. It's such a good "flipping the bird at the player" moment.

Also that miniboss sucks and I used both timestop AND the gun against it.

You can do it, raocow! You're almost done with the easy part of Hell Temple!

I think the boss rooms in Hell Temple make a cool pseudo boss rush.
I personally would have called Tiamat's attack "Cleavage Fury" but "Tiamat Buster" won't get strange looks in public.

To answer the end of video questions. raocow played for around an hour and 20 minutes. And he wasn't sure if he'd have to redo any of the Hell puzzles.

Assuming raocow hard saved after he cut the video, or hard saved during his trip to the hotsprings. He shouldn't have lost any progress dying to Mushussu.

He warped out to the surface at the 30:22 mark and then warped back to the Gate of guidance afterwards, when he died he ended up at that Gate of Guidance Quick-save. So assuming he hard saved after that death he won't have to redo the dark bird room and will just have to walk back to Mushussu.

You mention that it's probably going to require a Key Fairy at some point, why not see if a Key Fairy is the answer to the punch hand on the bridge?
