Kinda hurt seeing raocow trying to break the wall in the waterfall area on the surface while on the ladder but not reaching because he was using the dagger >.< Hopefully he'll get into the habit of using a longer ranged weapon to do that.
This was probably the most efficient way I've seen Ellmac dealt with, most people I've watched just got impatient and shot him.

Very nicely done on that Ellmac fight, raocow. The boss is one of my favorites for how high-energy it is. Helped along by the music, of course.

Personally it's my preferred method of fighting Ellmac. Wouldn't mind so much if it weren't such a pain in the ass to even hit him.

Viy

is the only other boss I hate fighting as much because both spend so much time being impossible to hit while being obnoxious to not get hit by. Though the latter also has the distinction of being a more interesting fight too, just a rather difficult one.

Why do I have the weird feeling you find the Twin Statues in the first part of the Twin Labyrinths? That can't possibly be right, as I only remember that there was only one item of significance here, which evidently was the Helmet.

Time to explore the aquaducts! And maybe that 'dark place' and Endless Corridor, if there is time left.

so does today mark the first time raocow officially entered a backside area? at least one of those twin labyrinths rooms was a backside room bcuz of the bats in it. i don't know if the room he accessed after ellmac is backside or not though so it could be that too lol

also i mean TECHNICALLY endless corridor is a backside area too so, well, ok

i've honestly never played a video game in my life

You can tell by the look of the bats. Though in my opinion it is a lot harder to notice the difference, in the remake.


Elder Xelpud in the original was a huge MSX fanboy, he even wears a MSX shirt in his official artwork (though it's a bit obscured in the remake for legal reasons). Visiting him in his hut in the original would often have him talk about it.

And trash talk the Famicom.

I agree with folks voicing... opinions about the Twin Labyrinths. For me at least, a big part of that is the music. I sense that it's supposed to reinforce the area's being confusing and off-putting. And it sure does. Maybe too well!

for sure, LM2 has a piece that achieves similar effects for a much "better" area.

The Twin Labyrinth theme only suits the toxic/timed parts of the Labyrinth, elsewhere it's too tense.

I think the long delay for the Wiiware version was on the publishing side. Nicalas was supposed to do it, but I think they eventually deemed it unfeasible and cancelled. It took a Spanish publisher to bring it to Wiiware (apparently lot's of Spaniards like this game).

As an aside, what does a publisher do (or is needed for), when a game's release is strictly digital? I don't really know anything about the publishing process.

The dragon bone is another important item found there, though it's not particularly useful until much further in the game. You have to buy three items from the helmet shop (if I recall correctly) to unlock the shop owner's brother's shop who sells the dragon bone. I don't actually recall off the top of my head where the twins statue is found though.

Personally I like that field more than it's reciprocal. It's such a shit show puzzling it out but the music and exploring it is actually pretty good.

The iron pipe in the shark's dong is

a reference to the MSX game Ashguine 2, by the same people who did Hydlide. Curse of Ocean's original version, Curse of IRON PIPE, samples the main theme of said game. Xelpud also mentions said "curse": "Ashguine's curse is awful. After all, it's an iron pipe sticking out from the crotch. Those trilobites are surprising too." I don't know the context in the original MSX game, I've only found out about this by reading TvTropes. It has a translation patch though.... (tempting)

Yay Bronze Mirror! In Classic, the Bronze Mirror was given as a reward for beating Ellmac. Here, Ellmac gives just access to that part of the Twin Labyrinth. As for what the mirror actually does, I'll leave that for you to find for now ;)
