even me. I didn't even like playing this hack, but I really admire it from a designer's standpoint.

It really commits to its premise and isn't afraid of sticking to its niche.

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, this is basically a tech demo showing off some new things released at C3 2018?

You could say that, buuut, most smw resources have a tendency to never actually get used while everyone just keeps submitting 100 levels to the vanilla level design context. This hack actually pushes the resources to their limits immediately rather than just demoing them like a tech demo would.
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

I agree with this sentiment.
From my point of view, it moreso feels like the resources were part of the self-imposed constraints and challenges that helped direct this hack during its development. It's more like a "thematic ingredient" in an iron chef competition rather than just a sample festival.

This game often feels like the good parts of jump, except for one specific level which I really don't like, but I'll talk about that when the let's play gets there.

On a side note the let's play made me replay the game because I want to have something to actually add to the conversation

this hack is the second time ive interrupted jumphalf development by "leading" a team hack (i came up and started leading yump, but lazy did all the big hard work on that one). the idea of this hack came very spur of the moment and it just grew bigger and bigger from there. i also ended up making the most levels, but i'm not too happy with how most of them turned out (i did the chainsaw level here).

this hack prioritized c3 resources - the graphics are by katrina, and the sprites are from a myriad of users during that winter c3. we quickly ran into issues with many of the sprites not working or being very very poorly coded, so worldpeace and morsel helped fix up random things here and there to make things run more streamlined. i was going to try to get it finished in just a single week, but the jump boys talked me out of it because we just didn't have enough done and had too many bugs by the time the final day came around. we ended up releasing it a week after the end of c3.

also the title comes from:

i was gonna name it "only the dog knows for sure" before this name stuck.

Can someone explain why the cave area's accessible before you do the actual level and also why the tutorial's stuffed away in there making the player think you're supposed to use the shell to get to the pipe that's above lava.

I like this level overall but I think that's something really weird about it.

This was the first hack I ever saw to use custom powerups to any real meaningful end. The whole game was a very validating experience, because I was so sick of custom resources being completely unexploited, only being used in hacks in which their presence doesn't really matter. (It's very appropriate that we're playing this after 3mix.)
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.
