That treasure chest looks an awful lot like a Cacodemon.

I'm usually not to schadenfreudig at raocow fucking up repeatedly, but I was chuckling to myself when he was getting more and more irate at the game having the audacity to demand that he actually hit a platform with his jump!!

As people have said many times: the treasure levels are a huge difficulty jump in comparison to the rest of the world, but they're also always super short and punchy, so it's never terrible or anything. I recommend doing them last in the world (as they are on the world select screen!), however. You might have been more used to the wind physics then.

I think what was also tripping up rao in the early part was he was jumping after his dash ended, which sonetimes get's me too.

The Bubble Dreamer: Creator of the Glade of Dreams and all its inhabitants, he's usually a pretty chill guy. Though if he get's in a bad mood, or gets a little loopy, bad things can happen. He also likes to hang out with his creations.
He first appeared in Rayman 2 as well, though with a different design and name (Polokus). But its obviously the same guy.

From what I've read

there's only 10 total red chest levels?

Still means it's a pretty long game then right?

Ten episodes down,

and about 50 to go!

Gonna enjoy every minute of this, even when it gets sacre-inducingly hard.

I think Wind or Lose is one of the "worst" levels in the game, as it is just kinda uninteresting. They introduce the wind with a lot of setpieces that work out to be a little slow and awkward in practice. Fortunately, the time trial is really generous as are the Lums, so you can just quickly do the level and then immediately forget about it. It's really not bad, but I just don't care for it that much.

Later things they do with wind are far more interesting.

Today, on "raocow Plays Battletoads", raocow rides snakes and stuff!

Zylgrox Odyssey? I'll take Globox Odyssey, thank you very much!

If it has auto-scrolling like today's level, there's a good chance that you're only expected to get ahead of the curve the few times you can. Sometimes you just have to learn the speed run route more than anything because I bet you kept thinking there would be one more room. Not this time!

So that green guy who showed up to tell raocow he sucks at the level, his name is Murphy. I don't know what he is, but he first appeared in Rayman 2. From that game onwards, he was your hint guy. But not like Navi, he would only occasionally show up, or sometimes you would have to seek out stones to communicate with him, like that old guy in Zelda: A Link to the Past.

I liked yesterday's level. There's a certain joy with free flight with Rayman's hair, but only those who've played the previous games would understand.
I think that was supposed to the actual proper introduction to flying with updrafts. I'm surprised the Chest level was already unlocked when rao got there. Maybe the developers should've raised the Electoon requirement?

As for today, I like running in place on the clarinet snakes, listening to the music made with the character's feet.

Yes, you are, but I definitely see where you are coming from. I'm sure there have been similar arrangements in other games.

This was the first level I considered to be, like, hard as-is, time trials aside. I got that message too. ^^;

In my own playthrough I'm getting closer and closer to the end, hopefully I'll maintain being ahead of raocow. I saved some of the time trials I found more difficult for later and I'm going to want to get back to them before he plays them.

Really love this level. I'm a sucker for "autoscrollers" that constantly give you something to do, and this one marvelously avoids ever becoming boring, without being too demanding. It's also no mean feat to make a Ludwig snake that never feels unfair even though you have no idea where it's going; raocow still managed to trap himself once, but...well...nobody's perfect (I'll leave it up to you if the "body" is he or the level designer).

The moskito level played today is the second one on the 3ds demo.

We won't be seeing the third one for quite some time, actually.

Mosquito: Initially an enemy in Rayman 1, but is quickly befriended. He then gives you a ride in exactly 1 level, which Origins takes inspiration from.
Mosquito makes a small cameo appearance in the first level of Rayman 2, but only as stage decoraction. But, this means he's the ONLY character from Rayman 1 (other than Rayman himself) to get carried over to the 2nd game.

Now today: I prefer inhaling all the enemies, over using the weak pea shooter. It pretty much one-shots the larger enemies, and you can suck in entire rows of the small ones. I really do like that the Mosquito levels have you see the transition from World to World.

Weakest power in the game, IMO. It feels kinda shoehorned in.

Not really a power so much as an ability to engage another returning Rayman mechanic... bit silly but a fun intro to scaling shenanigans.

I like playing as Tiny Rayman, but I agree that it doesn't feel like much of a powerup, since you can't control when you shrink and grow.
I remember there is one later level that can give you a choice if you want to be big or small for the majority of it (which makes multiplayer interesting), but that is the only standout example.

So those billboards at the end of every level, that is a reference to the checkpoints in Rayman 1. A photographer would take your photo when you stand behind one. Image
He was originally supposed to appear in Origins, you can see him at 1:35 in the original announcement video I posted earlier:

As you can see, like the Magician and Mr. Dark, they retconned him into a Teensie as well. But I have no idea why the removed him from the final game.

That's it for all references and characters from Rayman 1 and 2, for now. Nothing until World 5, I think.

suggestion: complete your first attempt of the speedrun a bit more cautiously to know where the run is gonna end so you're not as stressed out about it

Globox repeatedly doing the spin-dash thing on the time trials almost makes it feel like watching a Crash Bandicoot game.
