Re: Necrosphere LP thread
It feels like two different people managed the tone for the introduction and the end of the game, with little to no communication with each other. wow.
Good job on beating the game raocow!

Re: Necrosphere LP thread
That is the only ending.
There is an armored suit powerup available in the final area, but it's only useful for finding the last couple of DVDs (it makes you immune to spikes).
There's a Steam achievement for beating the game without dying.
Thanks for play, raocow.

And so,
Istanistan ruins yet another attempt to expose their conspiracy regarding the Necrosphere. Also, RIP Tara and Markus, I guess.

Re: Necrosphere LP thread
That was, like, a crazy exercise in changing the tone of a game as much as possible as steadily as possible. There was no single turning point, but it was not at all the same thing by the end.
The lighthearted notes from your teammates just ... gradually stopped showing up as much, and gradually became less lighthearted. The control scheme went from unusually straightforward to unusually convoluted. The mood went from cartoonish "hey we're badass agents and I'm going to break out of hell with a tutu" to pragmatic "jetpack, avoid spikes, no story needed" to dismal silent landscapes and a melancholy shrug of an ending.

Re: Necrosphere LP thread
This game is all over the place in terms of tone, like you get a tutu but you're then in hell collecting sitcom DVDs and then one of the most downer endings I've ever seen. The [initial] Hollow Knight ending is less of a downer, heck, even the "

Re: Necrosphere LP thread
It's one of the Hollow Knight endings.
Re: Necrosphere LP thread
My bad, meant to say the "initial Hollow Knight ending". I'll edit it for clarity

Personally I thought this game was at its most interesting before the powerups, when you were at the complete mercy of the gravity bubbles. The jetpack, especially, changed it from "you can't jump" to "you can simulate the effects of jumping but it's really awkward", which isn't nearly as interesting or suited to the two-button gimmick.
As for the ending, it just plain didn't make sense.

Re: Necrosphere LP thread
I like the ambiguity introduced by that note about how people hallucinate in the Necrosphere. Is that ending all in Terry's head and he never actually escaped? Was the entire journey imagined?
Except that was most likely a throwaway joke and they didn't give too much thought to the story. Ah well. Nice music, a valuable lesson in mixing twitch gameplay with control gimmicks (don't unless you REALLY know what you're doing), makes me genuinely wish the mosts had lasted a bit longer so we could've squeezed in a Best raosong 2018.

Re: Necrosphere LP thread
The game sorta feels like the end of DT3. Like, it feels the creator was just done with the work, on an emotional downswing, didn't want to add any more and wrote out a depressing ending. Purely guessing here, they could've written the ending first for all I know, but that's the vibe I get.
