Which hole? There's going to be 8 to choose from.

This hack feels like a nice, neat little breather of a game. It's fun to watch :3

Why only throw the losing side in a hole? Just throw the whole in a hole and be done with it.

Definitely. I look forward to it because it's so relaxing. I think the rather plain level design of the first stages is perfectly fine, maybe not for super experienced hack players, but it's a nice starting point to ramp up from. Hack's gotten some teeth already anyway.

So watching that boss thwomp in today's video: is it raocow ducking what prevents him from being frozen in place during that fight?

It's seems the only time you were frozen in midair was when you were on the edge of the screen.
Which is still weird.

But my question is which boss is weak to which of the 8 powers?
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

Oh man, it's the overused thwomp boss but also it stuns you at arbitrary times instead of just when it lands!

At least it only took three hits.

Man, how long has it been since That Thwomp Boss has shown up in one of raocow's videos?

The magic of going back and playing six year old hacks, I suppose.

Back then this was just called "the custom boss"

The only bigger foul than cutoff at SMW central was submitting a hack without this boss, instant perma-ban

Woah, that secret exit was actually pretty nice!

I'm a bit disappointed that the coin death level introduced a new coin based obstacle rather than using SMW's base coin mechanics in an interesting way.

The ending ball thing appearing in Thorny 'n Prickly way before I expected it to made me laugh a ton for some reason.

I'm super surprised it wasn't a midpoint. It's kind of like that other level that used this Banjo Kountry Kazooie tile set raocow played earlier, but I can't remember if it was VIP4 or Hyper VI. Cute baby level. I hope it eats its vitamins :3

I think the author spent a bunch of time importing the custom graphics and sprites and tediously laying out that nightmare tileset that is the DKC brambles set, and realized how long it was gonna take and said "screw it, this level is 10 screens long"

This is one of the reasons why DKC ROM Hacking isn't more popular :|
Uh...Do I just sign here? What do you mean it should be obvious? There are people in this world...well...a whole lot of people that can't follow basic instructions!

Oh boy, talk about a very abrupt shift in difficulty.

That's a "worst of both worlds" kind of thing. People who'd go in wanting a challenge would have to mill through the first 3/4 of the game, and people who'd go in wanting an easygoing game would abruptly get entirely blocked off from finishing it and having a satisfying conclusion.

And I think it's telling that raocow really wasn't prepared for this. If this were part of Hyper VI, those last 2 levels would have been 2-star difficulty levels in that context -- here it just comes out of nowhere lol

I attribute this to the game catching raocow off-guard. You can really feel his confusion even at the very end of the video. The shift in difficulty was jarring to him due to how uncharacteristic it was. Also, I'm pretty sure that since this LP started, raocow went in every video expecting this game to be his "easygoing chill time" for the day.

To say it's inexcusable would be blind to this reality. Dude just wasn't prepared, and honestly, the game didn't prepare him for this.

I think the little fire-spewing enemies are really interesting because of how they require you to move in a very specific way to dodge them, but the way the hack uses them isn't super great, in that it just sort of throws them at you and hopes you pick up how they work fast enough to not immediately die. The lack of powerups beforehand doesn't help either.

I see Mizuno has an evil second cousin, too. Hope they're not as bad as Haimari's.

The power-ups have been real feast-or-famine, mostly the latter, but when they have shown up? It's been like 5 capes in a row.
