035. The Frigid Sea - Red

Cold night black ~
the color o' icy
crystal rock.

036. The Colossal Hole - Gray

Drawn-out fall ~
in ancient rock dust,
allergies.

037. The West Crater - Gray

Fall sunset ~
in volcano depths,
wild larva.

-------------------

I love how big & mazy "The Colossal Hole" is, with all its secret crevices.

As raocow shows, it has plenty o' li'l holes that just hold music coins.

My only question is why an owl would be hanging round a giant hole; but then, it's no stranger than an owl being in an underground ruin, a mansion, or inside a factory. Or than a caterpillar hanging round a volcano.

I would complain 'bout how oft Wario Land 3 has you break through large parts o' rock wall in so many levels, but then I remember that that was a huge part o' Wario Land II, from the very 1st level. The 1 thing I think Wario Land II did better than Wario Land 3, gameplay-wise, is the way money has greater prominence: the way there's coins all o'er the place you can find in secret caches. It's weird to be playing a Wario game & not collect money everywhere, & levels can look somewhat empty without having coins everywhere. "The Colossal Hole" with all its li'l crevices would particularly benefit from having coins strewn round.

If I recall, The West Crater was like a blocking point for a while when I was a kid. I couldn't figure out how to navigate that breakable section on the left side of the level to get to the caterpillar room, so I wasn't able to progress in the game. Then I was playing the game during a parent-teacher meeting at school and another kid there saw me playing and I guess he had played the game before and showed me how to beat that level.

Updated the flowchart. Nothing major, just filling in the blanks, so no need to post it again here, right?
Story Time! With Wario Land 3
At the bottom of each new hole that's opened up, slumbers the Blue Snake Eyes, Left and Right sides. These can be input in some slots of a matching door in The Tower of Revival, opening up the backside, and a ways to go further up the tower.
So raocow, WHEN are you going to go try for all 8 Music Coins? Do you want to know as soon as possible?

I dunno if it's really worth it to go for all 8 Music Coins in each level during the LP because doing so essentially amounts to replaying each level 4 times in one go since you're now going to all 4 treasure areas to get the coins. I don't think it'd be very great LP content since nothing new is being seen or learned.

Edit: He's obviously welcome to try it and see how he feels about it though.

My opinion is that the music coins are 1000% not worth it.

I really hope that raocow will not even try gathering all 8 music coins. Because that's a nightmare. In most levels there is always one, last coin hiding in a stupidly hard to find place. So you are forced to explore the whole level many, many times. That's really exhausting.

Yeah +1 to skipping the music coins. They're just replaying content to get, which is against the spirit of an LP imo, nobody wants to watch the same stuff they've already seen

It gives a nice tour of how the expansive levels are laid out, and there are usually a couple tricky or clever things you need to do above and beyond the normal treasure routes. I agree doing it for every level could be a grind, but it's a real part of the game.

Basically it isn't just "redo the four things you did for chests". It's partly that, but also some genuinely good puzzles hide coins. So I'll speak up as thieir lone supporter I suppose.

I'm down for him trying it out on a blue chest run, but if it's as bad as I think it's gonna be, I certainly wouldn't encourage any more than that.

I would like him to try. It's more for the challenge than the reward. He DOES often go for dragon coins when there's a counter.

I should warn that sometimes it's not possible to get all 8 Music Coins, even when the 4th treasure is available.
And really, there's only 1 level that hides 1 in a really stupid place.

Really? I managed to get all 8 every time I did the blue chest in a level in my own LP.

yeah general rule of thumb is that if blue chest is open, you have access to EVERY part of the level, and thus, also every Music Coin. Blue is always the VERY last section opened, sooooooo....yeah. SOLE exception off the top of my head: Volcano's Base, since one optional item is required to open red and green chest area, and since it's optional, it's possible to open blue chest before red and green are available.

Depending on the path you choose in the later game, some coins are not available if you don't have the right powerup.

Before anyone yells at raocow for not checking the cutscene button (though he should have remembered it), the magnifying glass over wrote that cutscene, so it would have been impossible anyways.

Just so everyone knows, holding B before getting this would have just outlined the paths between levels.

But yeah, new treasure type: Map Tools

I think it got messed up with an update to the boards. We still at least have spoiler boxes and the ispoiler stuff if you need it.
