It was such a freaking raocow moment, lol. I felt bad for him but I legitimately laughed because of course he'd get hit at the last possible moment and have to repeat the entire thing.

I may be repeating myself here, but I enjoyed that death because of rao's last words here. What makes them so awesome is because they can apply to almost any situation:

  • "A scientist is unveiling a new invention. It starts up and whirs, causing concern amongst the audience. The scientist says "Don't worry, we test ran this!""
    *BOOM*
  • "A new racecar driver get's ready for his 1st real race. He nervously looks at the map of the road. A team mate from the pit yells "Remember! We Test Ran This!""
    *Smacks into 1st corner*
  • "A stuntman is about to perform a new jump. Thinking of yesterday, he tells himself 'We test ran this'"
*insert falling sound from Road Runner*

I think the post-game in this game would be something that one unlocks by getting the true ending.

I always figured the post-game in Hollow Kinght essentially means the Trial of the Fool and the Dream Bosses, things you're supposed to do after you've done everything else and are fully upgraded. Sure you can do them before fighting the Hollow Knight but you're not really meant to.

If you want to see what exactly he's been eating all this time, sure. There's also another thing for Lemm, but that's old news by now.

This video made me realise something about this game's movement mechanics. They're mostly very simple and extremely responsive: moving makes you reach maximum speed pretty much instantly, the pogo effect is quasi instantaneous, wall-jumping as well and so on. With one exception! The double jump has a very noticeable delay, which makes timing it, especially when moving downwards, particularly tricky. One important tool here is using your dash to cancel any vertical velocity first, ensuring you won't fall down into spikes before jumping. A lot of rao's deaths come from him not actively understanding this at the start of the video, but he does learn it and we see him use that technique successfully a few times.

Iirc the reason you had an issue with some of your dashes going too far into spikes is bc having Sharp Shadow equipped also slightly increases your dash range. Sorry if you figure this out later on your own, I'm still in the middle of watching it.

The running fan-theory on the Path of Pain is that it's the memory of Hollow Knight's own training, and that White Palace is flooded with saws and spikes the way it is to accommodate that.

And this is what I was waiting for, before we looked at the Hollow Knight's Dream Nail dialogue.
Hollow Knight wrote:
  • ...Kill...
  • ...Shall blaze free...
  • ...This Vessel, broken...fails...
  • ...Dawn...Shall break...
  • ...No mind, the usurper...Only strength...
  • ...Kill the usurper...Our light it would suffocate...
  • ...Father?...
You can see, such infection, much marbles lost, but the one line I find particularly interesting is
Hollow Knight wrote:...Father?...
White Lady told us the Hollow Knight was flawed because of an "idea instilled", and this memory provides the context for what that was. Wyrm raised his child in the White Palace as his child, whether he intended Hollow Knight to just be an empty tool or not.

Having known a family, the Hollow Knight wasn't hollow.

It's worth noting that this is "hidden content", in that it can't be accessed through normal play. His thoughts are never accessible with the Dream Nail. However, they do exist in the game data, and are "intended" to be read, much like hidden content in certain other 𝗀𝖺me𝗌 from the pas𝗍 f𝖾w yea𝗋s.

Nope, of course not. Despite the fact changing charms would've mitigated the worst of the annoying issues for him here he kept the same charms he had equipped last video. Removing the shadowdash one would've helped in a few spots, longnail/mark of pride is rather helpful, honeycomb of course, or as an alternative to honeycomb deep focus and maybe some soul charge-related charms.

yeah personally i don't care for the path of pain either, each section goes on juuust a little too long and so you keep having to die & start the entire section over just to learn the last few bits, and it goes into nitpicky territory a bit more than i'm comfortable with. plus having a fight at the end where it's totally feasible to just, Die, is EHHHH

Congrats to raocow for beating Path of Pain on Hard Mode (no Hiveblood, Sharp Shadow on). And wow, that "boss" Melody opening hit was great!

It also makes you dip downwards a little bit at the start of the wing animation.
