yeah, and the next chapter is.... probably at least 5 videos by itself, enjoy

also i always wanna rave about the music in this game but especially in this sequence, the bit where the main theme leitmotif enters the song is just... chills every time tbh, like a dozen plays of this level later. this soundtrack is so good

the start of chapter 7's song also has a really cool musical thing going on in it but i'll talk about it then

If this was X6, it'd be named something much dumber like Bric-a-brac Brickblock

After playing the chapter 1 b-side myself I'm kinda looking forward to raocow playing it. It's the sort of thing most well-suited to raocow's skills. Challenging platforming without having to rely on much in the way of observation or thinking things through.

Man did I die a lot there though. 145 deaths versus the 59 I got 100%ing the a-side.

raocow's reaction to that Mirror Maddy boss fight was pretty much the same as mine. Just being like "wow this is so amazing!" the whole time.

The intense music, the story buildup, and all the platforming gimmicks of this level being mixed together with a boss that shoots lasers and projectiles at you... By this point it felt like the A-side of chapter 6 was becoming a B-side, and I couldn't even imagine what the B-side of this level could do to even further test you on this level's gimmicks (but don't worry, 6-B definitely doesn't disappoint in that regard).

And yeah it did kinda feel like a finale... like where could chapter 7 even go from here? After thwomps and bounce pads and flight and a boss battle... are there even any gimmicks left for the game to explore? Then the fusion scene happens and it hits you... You have a double-dash now. This changes everything.

To me the boss fight felt epic but not necessarily like a finale. For one thing, there's still a mountain to climb.

Granny at the beginning of the video tells you that you can throw in the towel and you'll get over it. She sounds like Bennett Foddy.

Nice point of advice from whoever earlier in the thread after pico-8: you don't ever get GREEN hair in the real game, but as it turns out, you DO get the double dash!

Oh man I don't envy the cleanup. Somehow I lucked out and only had to do a little bit.

The Summit is such an amazing climax to this game, honestly. I love how the changes in the palette and music make such a huge difference in the overall tone of the level, even as you're revisiting the same places again.

The strawberries in this level are definitely a Thing, though.

I'd really recommend against doing the cleanup until you beat the level for reasons that may not become apparent until you get further into the level.

Chapter 7 is incredible. The feeling of culmination and revisiting past areas from the game at a higher difficulty and with two dashes all while this amazing music plays is just amazing.

Beating the level also allows you to see the relative position of all of the strawberries, which is very helpful in this level.

So if I'm interpreting this right, Madeline is now climbing the mountain in one straight shot now (from the bottom), skimming past all previous areas.

since i'm annoyed the total # of levels was spoiled to raocow and is making him have expectations that won't be met i'm just gonna say outright

yes, chapter 7 is the last maingame chapter. chapter 8 is postgame.

also on the subject of music. the bit of music that plays on the bridge when it collapses in the prologue is the start of chapter 7's song. it's a cool recurring thing that it plays both times you properly "start" climbing but it's spaced out far enough that you wouldn't necessarily notice the first time through playing

I expect raocow would've assumed there's 8 levels anyway, it's classic mario and the game does require knowledge of a particular classic Mario puzzle for a major collectable after all.
