As has been mentioned on the YT comments and on discord, why the SGB version and not the GBC version?

Also, just curious, are you using the unofficial Wall Fix patch?

So raocow seems to have picked up the original US / international release (Super Game Boy) instead of the second release (Game Boy Color, only one released in Japan). Most people are more familiar with the GBC release which is full-color, as opposed to the original SGB release. The virtual console releases also use the GBC version as well.

While a couple people have pointed it out in the comments on video one, I'll just go ahead and reiterate: don't worry too much about missing the treasure in a stage, you do get the opportunity to replay stages once you reach an ending. raocow did call it with regards to the collectables: 100% does require all treasures and all of the map pieces (the collectable obtained from the end-of-stage minigame). It may be worth making a note of which stages can be easily farmed for money to help with the map pieces, though, so that when stage select becomes available you can make a detour for them to get your total gold up a bit (the end-of-stage minigame takes the money from your total gold, not the gold you collected in the stage).

I fine with raocow playing the original version, but he HAS to include the fancy borders the Super Gameboy gives. Unlike DK '94, the border changes per world.

If raocow won't bother with the borders, he should just change to the more colourful GBC version.

Mmm, this game. It sure is a game. If you think Wario's indestructibility is because physical dangers are less prominent and the game focuses more on puzzles, think again. This game only reinforces the idea that immortality is a curse.

Also, I agree with raocow that there's something...off about Wario's sprite. He looks kind of rubbery compared to the more solid version in Wario Land 1. I'm also not really a big fan of the new sound effects; the sound for Mario's dash attack hitting a foe, in particular, sounds weak and unsatisfying, compared to the immaculate "shhhhhhmnk!" of the first game.

At least the Pirate Gooms look top-notch with their three-pronged spears and bandanas.

So we are not going to see the Super Gameboy borders? Awww...

BGB is my personal favorite GB/GBC emulator. The default settings would have even activated the SGB borders.

yeah wario land 2 and 3 have an odd wario sprite

i think it's because of the transformations, so they wanted a goofy sprite to go with the goofy transformations. just a guess.

Ah. Gime a sec and I can send you my config, see if that works better.

EDIT: Sent in Discord. see if that's better.

NVM I misunderstood the problem. I thought the blurry picture was the issue.

I hope you get your issues sorted quick and can start to just enjoy the game, because it's really a gem. I played the hell out of it on hardware back then, borrowed it multiple times from a buddy and just got 100% again and again. Recently got it on 3DS and was prepared for some disappointment as my standards might have changed, but nope, it's still good as hell. The exploration is super well done, the secrets aren't too obscure, the levels aren't annoying, the main conceit is super awesome (you'll see after you finish it...once) - just a really really fun package.

All in all probably a much needed breather.

Like I mentioned earlier, I recommend BGB for GB and GBC games. It's a simple emulator that doesn't require any work, it just, does.
It even auto detects SGB support, so had you played Wario Land 2 (or DK '94) on it, you would get the borders that come with the games.

Retroarch's DMG/GBC cores are just as good, arguably better thanks to SameBoy's Link Cable support, and full SGB support via Higan, among a few other things.

I just wish I could get retroarch to work with dxtory. I don't mind using bandicam but like, it's the one thing keeping me from making retroarch my default.

go into Settings > Driver, and change "Video Driver" to something else like d3d12. Save the configuration, restart, and see if that works.

(Or, alternatively, manually edit it in retroarch.cfg. it's the "video_driver" line

Man. Wario 2 is way more similar to Wario 3, the one I'm familiar with, than I thought it would be.

I don't really understand having basically all the walls be breakable for very obvious coins

As someone who first played this when I was probably 7 or 8, I can say that all those breakable walls with coins hidden behind them acted as a wonderful way to explore the levels and replay them for secrets. Though, they can definitely be considered padding since what you're actually doing is looking for the coins they hide so you can get the treasures and panel pieces for 100% so I totally see where you're coming from. It's just part of the game's core.

The coin counter getting cut off might be fixed by disabling "Crop Overscan" in Retroarch's Video settings.

As for the blurryness, is "Bilinear Filtering" enabled in the video settings? Maybe try with that off.

Ok. I get the title gimmick on here.

It's the states in alphabetical order

but that begs the question... does this mean raocow is going to be doing only one level per video?? Or is he only doing one per video cause of technical issues at the moment?

I rather like one level per video. This slower paced, relaxing game works well with shorter videos. I feel that with 15-20 minute videos I would get burned out.
