He was doing just fine after the initial period where he didn't realize that the owl moves on its own and you just change directions?

What's a Wing Smash?

But yeah, keyboards aren't very every game (especially for a game that needs a lot of use from shoulder buttons).
But the only times I really insist raocow use a keyboard is when he is having directional issues with his controller. Like when he needed to throw something straight up in SMBX (the source of my sig). And it's not hard to switch, they keyboard is right there.

Been quite awhile since he last tried to suggest keyboard though. I can't recall seeing anything keyboard related from him in like a year.

Walking enemies will stop when they reach a hole, so keep that in mind, next time the pull the fake floor trap.

As an aside, Wario can walk over 1-tile gaps, though this hasn't come up yet. You will hear him 'skip' a bit.

Finally, when you are Fire Wario, you'll only be engulfed in flames after spending enough time on the ground, only. Time in the air doesn't count.
This is different in WL4, where it operates using the 3-bounce (off walls) rule.

It seems like grabbing a hold of enemies is super-duper finicky in this one...

It's more that they'll get thrown off if you bump into anything, usually the ceiling or a wall. I don't remember if all you have to do is walk up to them while they're stunned or not.

Also, that giant spear man was not doing much harm where he was stationed.

Why did you need to defeat that big spear guy? He was just chilling in his home and you came in and slowly and painfully bashed him in the skull until he died! He didn't do anything to you!

You do have to wait a bit for Wario to lift the enemy above his head. Any action you do during that will cancel the grab.
This is more noticable with heavier enemies.

I would argue that a number of the failure states are actually more punishing (or at least tedious) than a standard life system would be, particularly because no deaths = no health = one screwup means failure (this is particularly noticeable with the bosses, where getting hit once means you lose the battle). The upshot of this is that the repetition becomes more concentrated on single activities, and thus more annoying that simply replaying a stage. Of course, raocow's good enough at the Marios at this point that he doesn't fail at the challenges all that much to begin with (and rarely more than once), but as a wee one (and a far worse player) I couldn't help but feel that removing the life system seemed to be achieving the opposite of what it was presumably aiming for.

I feel like raocow must've known this already from playing WL1, but it didn't seem like he knew in today's video that Wario can jump farther by starting a tackle before a jump. You don't even need to hold forward when you jump mid-tackle.

Wow, not much discussion. Usually there's at least something with the previous title when I update, either because discussion happened after I changed it or because I took my sweet time in changing it and somebody said something after the next video went up.

But neither happened this time, so here's a post to remind you all that Illinois is alphabetically between Idaho and Indiana. I'm sure we can all agree that this is critical information.

To be quite fair, though, and I thought to put this into words but then I forgot and now I was reminded again, Maze Woods is simply a quite boring part of the game. The levels are pretty easy, the secrets are nothing special, no groundbreaking new concepts are introduced, there's some super slow parts (like the turtles) and some that can actually be quite frustrating (owls, if you haven't honed your skills with weird clunky flying controls like raocow has), so the impression ranges from mediocre to bad overall.

I didn't even remember these levels being
on the most standard path.
