Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment - FINAL - Hero's Shade

1 - the raddest turtle

2 - the most amazing platforming

3 - the slickest of moves

4 - the loudest drums

5 - the shakiest floors

6 - the tastiest jello

7 - the driest doubloons

8 - the most extreme of mechas

- the most righteous lair

10 - the most glorious dance

11 - the unbelievable rematch

12 - the pyriest victory

13 - the gnarliest friends

14 - the radicalest accounting

15 - the most happening beetle

16 - FINAL - the last encounter

Shovel Knight turned out to be a pretty popular game when it was released in 2014. Did so well that multiple expansions were made. The first of which was Plague of Shadows, released in the following year. It wasn't until last year when the second expansion, Specter of Torment came out, and unlike with Plague's campaign, this expansion features both major level design changes and new boss patterns to learn. It's arguably as good as the original game even if the lead character's just a bit on the edgy side.

I was a bit slow on this one. I actually had a topic ready to go, but your title is so much better than the one I was thinking of with Ow The Edge because that's overdone and not even that funny. Anyhoo, is it okay if I edit in the description I was working up for the thing that links to the other two Shovel Knight threads in the first post?

No, seriously. He makes raocow's interpretation of Dust look cool.

this game was a good showcase on switch's release about it being portable is amazing. and a showcase how its excuse for a d-pad is horrendous.

If I had to give a complaint for this game, its that the dash attack being based on a position and not player input is terrible. Many a pit I've fallen into solely because I timed a dash attack too early and went downward instead of upward.

I was waiting for this one. This is probably my favourite game of the three.

I actually like that the dash attack is based on position. I liked the timing aspect of it.

For some reason Specter Knight's control scheme felt more intuitive and came more naturally to me than either Shovel Knight's or Plague Knight's, even though it's definitely more complex than Shovel Knight's in actuality.

I think this might be my favorite of the Shovel Knight things so far.

Specter Knight is literally Shadow The Hedgehog. He's edgy and dark, broods a lot, runs up walls, has a homing attack, and grinds on rails. There's no way it wasn't on purpose.

Also, bust open the left wall on the area with the rails on the hub. It's wise to save an entire video to what's behind it though!

Ah, the Endless Parapet. As soon as I saw the thumbnail and the time on the video, I knew that this was going to be an angrycow adventure, especially considering that he did this straight out of the gate, while I did this with every single upgraded curio. Took me about half an hour.

Oh, man, raocow's got around to this now. (And to think that I was afraid of being spoiled on it...)

Aaaand immediate Horus climb. I'm not terribly surprised, considering raocow would do that anyways if he knew, considering how much he adores a challenge. If it makes you all feel better, I also took a while, and that's with a few Curios helping me out. One in particular really helps with the ascent.

One more thing, which is more things with the hub world. I think you want to try interacting with the orbs, and crouching by the cat chest. Shovel Knight continues to be a charming game, and I think it will end in a charming manner with King Knight on the horizon...

welcome to the tower, aka everything i hate about specter knight's platforming in one spot.
After plague knight's style of blasting around and double jumping and being able to easily recover with bombs, now its a story mode where pressing a button at the wrong split second will kill you.
I shoulda given more warning beyond the dashing being terrible. At the very least, you should be more then practiced for the rest of the game.

The ghostly garb is no gaudy gold armor, but still nice. Rail mail is of course the speedrunner armor, and fun, but scuicidal on a first playthrough.

I had a similar attitude as raocow trying to beat that damn tower. The rest of the game isn't anywhere close to being this rage inducing. This probably gonna be the only episode in this series that I don't enjoy watching.

And yeah I love the mechanics in this game. I'm not sure if you figured it out during that tower segment, but you can get through those annoying little slime enemies very quickly by jumping and doing a downward dash to go through them. Normally they take two hits to kill, but with a dash attack they die instantly and you don't even have to stop moving.

Huh, I had no idea so many people didn't like this challenge.

Like raocow, I did it right out of the gate because it was there, and it's honestly one of my favorite stages in platforming history. Wow, is it ever exciting.

The tower owns. Also, raocow made the correct armor choice. Too bad he didn't show its actual stylishness yet!

This tower is really awesome. It shows off how intuitive (yet fun) Spectre Knight's control scheme is. I felt Spectre Knight can do so many cool things with surprisingly little time investment to learn how he works. Not to mention that it is super intense and engaging the whole time, even when replaying after a few tries.

Youtube Translator: "why is that or allosaurs as just icicles just hanging from the skaia" (What a beautiful attempt to check what the rao is saying)

...In all seriousness, I'm surprised you weren't being more of a rebel with the order. Not that I mind either way, really. Snowscything is real fun, and there's an armor that can do it anywhere, which is also fun. I dunno if it can beat those ghastly chills you are currently rockin, though...

Polar Knight's stage is still pretty cool. They kept the wolves, which is incredibly important. I don't think I recall Polar Knight using those Ice Pillars on me... I must have finished him off too fast.

Also, the Dread Talon's my favorite Curios... it's incredible in ripping anything it touches to shreds. Probably not raocow's actual style, but I had a blast playing around with it myself.

Dread Talon's probably my favorite Curio, too! It's really fun to use.
