At this rate, it's probably gonna be... what, half a month till he actually finishes this game? I have my own opinion on this hack, but I'll save it for the end.

Levels like today are why I wish there was more control over the camera.

Proposal: Do the special world levels off cam to practice then do a full playthrough after you have done the level once. You're not going to keep a savestateless run going in special world for very long. IDK how you're going to do the last normal level toolless, let along the final special level.

gonna have a fair number of multiple video levels around there

Why not just attempt them and then gradually add checkpoints and tool use? No need to practice if not using tools is unreasonable anyway.

Anyone know what actually happens when you touch the screen in the boss room in today's level?

That wendy fight, wow.

Now this might be a result of editing out the tedium and/or my personal addiction to non-linear level design but I thought this level was cool?
I mean the sideway twimps looked wonky and the invisible stuff was garbage as usual but I thought the rest was interesting.
Was expecting a terible level but given the context the difficulty didn't look that unreasonable to me.

Ever since I adopted the mindset that this was principally a kaizo hack my enjoyment has really increased I think.

As I explained 6 years ago, they reset the room.

You know how raocow in other hacks is always phasing through those on/off dependent blocks when they're supposed to be solid? Well, you can do that in the midway room here and then you only have to play the second half once.

So, that's the fun part of the game over, and it was nice to see. Now the interest is in seeing how far raocow is willing to slog.

Of course there's no indication that's what it does so you just assume you don't want to touch it.

Because it seems to keep coming up, I'm curious: what are the technical reason(s) behind stuff just randomly not spawning when it should? And what can/should a level maker do to prevent it from happening?

Now I'm not an expert, but I think I got this figured out:
1) putting too many sprites onscreen
2) not putting as many sprites onscreen

Oh right, this part of the game. Some level halves (or fourths) in W8 are still pretty fun to play, so there are still a few things to look forward to, in my opinion. It's not ALL bad from here on out,

just mostly

.

Also, I was digging old archives the other day, and to people wondering how Haimari is able to create so much stuff.. Well, to quote: "if you spend 48 minutes hacking and 12 minutes resting every hour, you can get a lot of work done in a day." Wise words by Haimari, a true role model.
