Been looking forward to this hack - 2R has definitely improved a lot on the original 2.

Also, I can't help but enjoy the story of these games. It's definitely corny at times, but it sets up a pretty neat world and drives some events (especially later in this game).

edit: regarding the music: about 95% of the tracks in the game are composed by FPI, myself, and a guy named Moose, and most of the non-custom stuff is at least partially remixed. FPI was responsible for the really neat world 1 map track.

OK raocow's voice acting of Zycloboo was pretty great! And somehow strangely fitting.

Chaos Complexx was actually added as part of TSRPR, but cleaned up a little, from my limited knowledge of the games? Still, I completely forgot and/or did not know that TSRP2R was a thing. Guess I've just not hung around SMWC or here enough to know that, but I'm interested in how it is compared to what I know of TSRP2 and TSRPR.
Because Touhou OCs can in fact exist, sounds fake I know.

I can't change my username but I go by Vali/Claire now (aka call me Vali or Claire at your leisure ^^).

I never update this currently playing section anymore, it's probably an RPG or something.

Ah, here we go.

TSRP2 (reloaded or not) starts out at a notably higher difficulty level than TSRP (which is actually deceptively easy at the beginning), but the endgame is significantly more reasonable. The original game was readily possible to beat without savestates, the remake all the more with the (occasionally awkward) addition of multiple midpoints in a few of the particularly long levels. The difficulty curve has also been smoothed out a bit in the remake do to some level shuffling and small changes to levels; gone is the massive world 2 difficulty spike (it's still markedly harder than world one, but no longer harder than anything before world five).

This hack takes a very different approach to its visual revamping than TSRPR the first. While in that game, FPI in a number of cases changed the environment of a level entirely (an early cave level becomes an outdoor ruins section, for instance), that actually occurs in very few cases here. Instead, the overwhelming majority of the levels do their best to retain the overall feel--or at the very least the general theme, if occasionally greatly reinterpreted--of the original, even if the particular elements used to convey this are swapped out for new ones. Which makes sense, in a way: the original TSRP2, dated as the æsthetics are at times, is still very good at conveying atmosphere with the elements it has to work with, so it's hardly surprising that the best parts weren't just tossed out for the remake. As for the heavy use of SMW Redrawn graphics...yeah, those have aged kind of poorly (though I still do like the Goombas, flying Hammer Bros. and a few other things), but I guess they're sort of cemented as part of the visual style of the series at this point.

For reference, the music in this hack is mostly original (albeit from four composers this time: FPI, S.N.N., Axem Jinx and Moose, if I recall correctly), with a few ports and remixes (also by said composers) for areas explicitly based on other games. FPI once stated that you would probably be able to tell who had composed what by listening to it, but when I tried to do so, tended to frequently attribute to Axem Jinx things that had been composed by FPI, and tended to forget that poor Moose existed entirely. I may not be the best judge of such things, though.

As far as life farms are concerned, there's a nice spot in the Nautilus (which now has a...different name) very near the midpoint where you can have a shell ricochet back and forth knocking out Torpedo Teds for all eternity. It'll be a while before raocow gets there (the level occurs later in this version, and is now also mandatory), but things shouldn't get *too* rough before that point.

I've been waiting for this lp for a long while.

As for the lifefarms situation, raocow already missed 1 great lifefarm opprtunity.

It's a laundromat kind of lifefarm.

There's one secret "exit" in this that's REALLY well hidden, but raocow shouldn't worry about it now.

I'm honestly surprised that raocow is playing this. Also, I kinda liked how raocow pointed out ... that "punching" confirmation.

Also, who's ready for raocow to have fun at

The overworld tileset with random specs all over it is really confusing.
Are the specs supposed to be more "realistic"? Cause it just looks like someone drew specs all over the map.

Last I heard, FPI took most of the concepts and plans he had for TSRP3 and incorporated them into this game. He then vanished. Sadly, I don't think the sequel is ever going to happen.

Personally I found it rather annoying. It would've been fine if it was for shorter dialogue but with how much there was it quickly became grating instead.

I'm not a super huge fan of the TSRP series or TSRPR, so I never really messed with TSRPR2 before. The OW being all speckly looks kinda weird.
Ometeotl wrote: 6 years ago Oh no, why is this using that terrible, ugly, overused sprite set.
Redrawn was the best we had for a while, it's weird to see them in a hack even from 3 years ago though. I don't think the sprites are awful but styles have shifted a lot since then and Yoshi looks really awkward.

Oh my god, I'm usually okay with sitting through story I don't care about for the sake of "watch completion" but today, for my first time in the like 8 years I've watched this channel, I finally just spammed the skip forward button to get to the end of the mole's dialogue.

This game has some really weird decisions made that I think are a side effect of obsessing over being "super high quality."
Like the weird Mario 3-esque bonus rooms where you spend like 20 seconds in them to get a handful of coins of all things. It'd be just as rewarding for the game to just have a message box there that says the word "reward"
