That's a very Japanese thing. For some reason 16:10 was way more popular in Japan. And it wasn't until about 2015 that widescreen PC games were common. I think even Ys Origin was 4:3 or 5:4 until XSeed hacked it into the localisation.

The PC petting company is Netherlands based. Maybe they do similar things.

I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that this game has bosses at the end of its worlds?

there where characters who certainly could be bosses in the animated intro at least

raocow, not having played this it's only a guess but you should try rapidly throwing jellybeans when in range of one of those birds. They're quick enough that it may not have the effect I'm thinking but it seems like you may be able to distract them with jellybeans or something in order to give you a small window of time to freely feed Blob.
