also how did nights into fucking dreams get into this, what is its lcd playfield like. i want to play this as someone who plays at an intermediate level in the actual game, need to practice getting A ranks more.

i dont know when i'll do JoD, its mission based structure and having actual cutscenes and dialogue sounds like complete and utter ass but i think the kids are super adorable, though the plot in balan is the only good thing about balan, beyond balan and his rival's design and that was entirely left out of the game and made into a companion book so

i'd say i'd try to be on the look out for interesting standard hacks but mario romhacks, as with any easy to use gamedev tool, are very sturgeon-y. i can try to dip into smb1-3 hacks too if necessary. tonkachi mario when

there's some very interesting tech demo-y sm64 hacks thanks to C coding being possible rather than exclusively MIPS ASM but i don't think a lot of those will be rao's thing as some of them aren't really platformers, like the deltarune one. i believe there was a recent mario party one too. tangy tends to watch simpleflips a lot so he should know more about those.

as for smbx, we have a lot of heavy smbxers in the talkhaus circle (tangy again, valentine, a2xt crew, emral, ig darkonius though he's usually super busy on his indie game) so they will be more experienced on telling a good one apart than i am, and a lot of the time the former two are like "good smbx episodes aren't really a thing lmao xddd".

which i feel a tremendous amount of empathy for as a smw hack consumer and i guess maker, even as someone who wants to get into the stupider, jankier, less vanilla sort of kaizo on occasion rather than rejecting it outright. i'll have to use some checkpoints due to not having enough patience to do a full grind tho.
