Re: Mega Man (Game Gear) - Gearing Up for a Disappointment
Legends doesn't have a mission select, though, right?
Like it would still be cool to see an LP of but I feel like, like the ZX games, it would make more sense as its own LP instead of part of All the Migamen.

Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

re: the game gear settings: I appreciate it but I believe the way I'm dealing with the game now is how the game was when you played it on the real hardware, and that's how I want to appreciate it.
aterraformer: like I'd consider the legend games but they are on a completely different format. Like they are barely actually megaman games other than the name, no ?

Re: Mega Man (Game Gear) - Gearing Up for a Disappointment
Yeah, that expanded view is just some normally unseen screen edge buffer or something. Pretty handy for RPGs where not seeing a few more tiles means a 10 minute trek to go see what's there. Totally not Kosher.raocow wrote: ↑6 years ago re: the game gear settings: I appreciate it but I believe the way I'm dealing with the game now is how the game was when you played it on the real hardware, and that's how I want to appreciate it.

Re: Mega Man (Game Gear) - Gearing Up for a Disappointment
They're 3D platform/adventure style games that are set in distant future of the Classic > X > Zero > ZX universe supposedly. I think it's cool keeping it to the 2D games as the Legends ones are definitely different, and unlike Mario, they play like their own thing instead of being a traditional Mega Man in 3D.
Re: Mega Man (Game Gear) - Gearing Up for a Disappointment
Legends is about as much a Megaman game as Gun Hazard is a Battle Suit Valken game. Or as much as Resident Evil is a Sweet Home game. Or as much as Doom 3 is a Doom game. Or as much as all those other Sherlock Holmes books are Sherlock Holmes books. Or as much as Ys 3/5/6 are Ys games.

At least "Crash" is in the name of the original weapon, but yeah it doesn't make sense as the defining word here.
This is such an awkward port. But with only four stages plus whatever they did for the fortress, it shouldn't take too long to get through, right?

By the way, about sound capacity of Game Gear, you may want to compare music with Green Hills Zone theme on Game Gear.

So...the people responsible for this is U.S. Gold. They were this publisher that made budget ports of games, primarily for the European market. They weren't exactly known for making quality ports in general, which has led to games like...well...this.
They got bought by Eidos a year after this was released, and then dissolved.

According to VGMaps.com, there are seven stages. The four initial ones, plusDragon Fogel wrote: ↑6 years ago This is such an awkward port. But with only four stages plus whatever they did for the fortress, it shouldn't take too long to get through, right?

Re: Mega Man (Game Gear) - Gearing Up for a Disappointment
By the way, if you used password to continue after beating Bright Man, the game continues in normal mode. It's a bug in a password system - it happens when a password only has Bright Man or only has Stone Man. Not that it really matters.
As for what hard mode does, Robot Masters are twice as fast and even have new patterns, and also generates different passwords.
Also, there are 8 stages which means 8 episodes.

I played this game before I play MM5. Boy, was that a shock.
Also, apparently I had forgotten over the years how ear-rippingly annoying the death sound was.

Re: Mega Man (Game Gear) - Gearing Up for a Disappointment
I know you said no to the settings I mentioned, but what about the "zoom" option, that isn't very self explanatory, but removes that GG border. If not, I'll just have to suffer through 160p resolution Game Gear Megaman upscaled to 1200p some more.

I mean, I can't exactly argue that. It was a childhood game for me so it's Mega Man to me but yeah realistically I always compared it to more like Ocarina of Time or something haha. I dunno, it was just an idea. I completely understand if you don't.

Wow, that was quite the death montage. Glad you eventually pulled through.
Hard to imagine Stone Man causing problems, but his attacks seemed to do quite a lot of damage. I guess that's hard mode for you?

I think you had more deaths in the last three minutes of that video than you did in the entirety of Megaman 7. Wow.

Re: Mega Man (Game Gear) - Gearing Up for a Disappointment
So I'm assuming you didn't actually redo the level after each of those game overs? Cause I feel like that many deaths would represent multiple hours of playing?

So... how long was that recording session anyway?
Re: Mega Man (Game Gear) - Gearing Up for a Disappointment
Man, Stone Man really didn't take kindly to you mocking him in MM5...

I wish more platformers allows the player to pan the camera like that.
