I mean... I know raocow doesn't care about plot, but English text would be nice for those who actually *do* want to know what's going on, and haven't played the games. :P

woah, didn't realize you were in the patapon spotzone. somehow i must've missed this discussion (which shouldn't be surprising)

also, knowing raocow, everything will be non-english

I meant Discordhaus when I said that, although I have sent raocow a whopping $1 donation for each of the past couple of months.

Is it just me, or was there quite a bit of noticeable slowdown plaguing today's stage? Was it this bad in IV? I can't remember.

After I let Patreon renew my pledge on the 1st so he could get that second $1, I had to cancel as I hardly make any money online. No financial issues, though, but I want a small buffer in case something does come up. This totally feels like a discussion for the Wario thread than this, but whatever!

We have Discordhaus for those that can't/don't want to pledge money but are talkhausers. Simple as that!

All the GB games lag at points, but MMV has probably the worst issues with it. A little too ambitious, maybe.

MH and CL are upgrades for the charge shot. MH is Magnet Hand, which allows you to grab items similar to Ring in MM4GB. CL is Clobber (I don't know if this is the actual name), which will cause the hand to latch on to an enemy and hit 2-3 extra times.

See, if you played the English version you could have found that out from the in-game description.

Even without knowing, you definitely bought the right thing. I mean, the Energy Balancer would be a big deal if you loved playing around with special weapons all the time, but you don't, so that can wait until the late game stuff. The Mega Arm upgrades are definitely the things to get.

Hot take alert: I was thoroughly unimpressed with MMV and never understood the hype. The Mega Arm has multiple issues, the entire OST is very forgettable, the lag is irritating, and

the complete lack of a meaningful fortress stage is even more irritating

. The collection and caPitalism bits are cute and reasonably/generically enjoyable but that's about it.

Huh, we are 2/2 on weapons that are similar to MMX3 weapons. I guess they got lazy with X3 :v

there's a third enhancement for the Mega Arm that won't likely be obtained unintentionally in the playthrough: the Turbo Accelerator, which increases the charge speed of the Mega Arm. it's not bought in Dr. Light's lab, but rather obtained by game-overing 4 times in a row on the same stage. this enhancement doesn't get saved to password, but it can always be reobtained. this can even be done a second time during the same playthrough to increase the charge speed further

A fun little thing - Mega Man V uses the same password system as Mega Man IV, even if it isn't particularly obvious. This is unique to those games in particular, other Mega Man games have their own unique password systems - although Mega Man X3 password system is a slight tweak of Mega Man X2 password system, still noticeably its own password system however.

The letter "B" (Beat) in Mega Man IV passwords is the same as letter "T" (Tango) in Mega Man V. The password field has a different size - 6x4 in Mega Man IV, 5x5 in Mega Man V (the last cell is unused, always "R", but the game doesn't care if you put something else here), but reading by columns from to left to right you can reencode passwords for the other game. The following two codes show correspondence between characters in passwords.

Code: Select all

159DHL
26AEIM
37BFJN
48CGKO

Code: Select all

16BGL
27CHM
38DIN
49EJO
5AFK
What used to be B, E, A, T plates in Mega Man IV are respectively: unused (remembered in new passwords if you have it, but you never get that in Mega Man V and it does nothing), Power Generator (not currently available), CL, and MH. This is why crystals are only used for second half of a game, what space was left for BEAT plates was replaced with new shop items.

So in the English version, Mercury's weapon is the Grab Buster.

I'm not sure offhand what other weapons have different names. I know Neptune's is still Salt Water, but I don't remember most of the other weapon names of the top of my head.

fun fact: video name used to be 'grab it' due to the american name, and I got quite a surprise when I saw the victory screen. Luckily I'm glad I did some quick research and found a song title with the actual word 'mercury' in it, which I'm not sure how I missed the first time but hey

I'm leaning no because it's part of the RPG series. Maybe it's very arbritary as far as decisions go but...
