I have a SFC copy of Rockman's Soccer and I don't think I even played it as long as this video. I could not figure out how it works any better than raocow

Battle & Chase actually did receive an English localization, and was released in Europe in 1998, but didn't come out in America until they included it as a bonus game in the Mega Man X Collection for GCN/PS2 in 2006.

If I remember it right, you beat a racer and take a part to upgrade your car and the whole deal is you don't get an item until you blast away enough enemies on the track. It's a game. Diddy Kong or Crash Team, this racer ain't. Still okay though.

Roll looks nervous as hell. Like she just got her driver's license only to get shoved into a kart racer immediately after.

Also, obligatory music link because Battle & Chase has some pretty good music.

This game got a manga adaptation, in which:

Dr Wily won the race, and got immediately arrested when he crossed the finish line. He only entered for the prize money, because Manga Wily is flat broke and lives in a rundown apartment between castles.

Bass blew up his car fighting Mega Man and then carjacked Auto to catch back up. This did not work as he was able to outpace Auto's car on foot (only after Auto insulted him).

Freeze Man turned out to be the #1 Ice Man fan and gave him his email address.

Dark Man from MM5 had a kart powered by an exercise bike with all the other Dark Men pedalling. This includes the one with tank treads.

Sounds like the Megamix manga?

I checked, and it seems we don't get to see the pink haired roller derby girl interview with the racer cutscene in the European release of this game?
The Japanese version has the plus that we see nervous Roll and possibly other goofiness, and the downside of reading.

I'd be pretty nervous too if I was tasked with driving a kart that apparently goes over 400 km/h.

In fairness to Roll, she's the only non-combatant player character in the game. I'd be nervous too!

She does eventually get into it, though.

The pink-haired woman's name is Plum. She's a reporter. She appears in this game and in the Archie comics and that's it.

EDIT: If you do want to continue this game (it's actually pretty fun if you can, uh, read anything), I'd suggest acquiring an English copy of X Collection and unlocking it. Or having one of the various talkhaus minions do it for you.

I am not convinced that Mega Man is moving at 580km/h despite that number being shown on screen

You know what, whatever faults I or anyone else might have with the last several one-shot videos, it was worth it for this special one.

It's always awesome seeing realcow footage, though it's missing the ceiling fan and the bed blanket. Alas :rao:

Doesn't that have a bunch of stuff cut from it for no obvious reason, or am I thinking of something else?

Maybe! I admit I didn't play it very much beyond beating the tar out of everyone with Roll. It was still a lot of fun for whatever it was, though!

Clearly Battle and Chase is part of the X Collection because the events of that game led directly to the state of the world when X wakes up.

Fun fact: this game is canonically meant to serve as an alternative music video to Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken Glass".

Mostly text and voice related stuff, cutting corners where they could, making for a very sloppy localization. Also Duo couldn't be unlocked in the Japanese version, instead being distributed via an event, like some legendary Pokemon. Though he was later added in the "Greatest Hits" reprint, well, the Japanese equivalent to it, that is.
