Ultimate Fire and Elec Man weren't too rough, but whew. These stages have gotten really repetitive and in the unfun way ever since coming back to them.

Guessing they went with Fire Man since his body's the closest thing you've got to armor in the game. It is a level that exists.

These DLC stages have been at their best when they're acting like Challenge Mode ones. This would've been at home with the stuff Elec Man's set had.

The Mania stage redemption arc. Including Cut Man's sequel in that discussion.

i saw my beloved malewife, guts "gutsy" gutsman make blocks and my first thought was "is gutsman a minecraft"

ambitious stage but the amount of Combat in it was no bueno considering most of the other robot masters are flat out gimmick characters, but i'm still on gutsdad's part so Who Knows

not a huge fan of how every user made stage for this is a sprawling nightmare circa early 2010s smwc but i guess i just wasn't there for it at the time. did desperately want this game in my youth, but store selections were shitty and i got gifted a random psp dbz fighter instead, which, wasn't bad but i was never hugely into dbz. need to download mega maker and compare recent levels to see if people still do this sort of thing and if the general quality has increased or not

maneuvering ppsspp's menus with a controller and not like. a mouse, seems like the most terrifying thing to me because you can misclick on anything. i could never do what raocow does in this video, when i played persona 1

EDIT: duckman's snowboarding basement kinda owns wtf

ASMagician Maks (or super mak as raocow once called him) told me this exists and the biggest issue with it is that I can't preview the innards of the 7zs on archive.org. This can't really go on request grab-bag because it's so overdone, but like. I might as well put it Somewhere. Please don't tell Nintendo, but they probably know about it like the Nintendo Power attempts and they're just waiting for a chance to bonk it on the head. I'm the second person to favorite this (my account only has like old Falcom games).

I haven't really played many mid 2000s hacks besides like VIP, MXW, TSRPR, Rob-Omb, Hyper, maybe SMW2+3? But I guess spaghetti level design is the carcinization of all 2D level editors. Sorry if I sounded unfair, I wasn't trying to insult the levels

These Hall of Fame levels looked pretty fun. Don't think I would've enjoyed the Quick Man one though. Bad memories.

Oh hell yes, I love how ambitious this was for the time.

I'm still in love with the King Bob-Omb over Bowser reskin - that's the most ambitious Bowser reskin I've ever seen.

Check out Dr. Mario World, Mario is Missing 2, and Suoer Mario Universe 1/2 for some slightly-better gameplay and funny sprite edits. TSRP2 (vanilla) has also aged fairly well for the time I think. It makes better use of the vanilla sprites unlike TSRPR which is like "so the final boss is Mouser lol". And though it's very hard, it at least feels like a considered hard a lot of the time (though of course, the hack can have its clonkers when it wants to). (As much effort was put into them and how funny things like TIME BOMB and Reznor on Crack are, I sadly have to not recommend the Super Mario Infinity series. It really feels like there's a lot of monster along the way type design, which is REALLY compounded by the level length, and a ton of tileset reuse without even different palettes. Not to mention some really horrid ideas like Underwater Exit The Level From The Sides Bowser after a Bowser's Starship-tier level, the dragon coin/bonus game chicanery, and Yoshi restrictions)

Note to anyone who wants to play Rob-Omb's Quest: The SMWCentral version "only" has seven worlds. The one on Lemmy's Land has both an Easy Mode hack and is complete. However, I cannot link it due to it being distributed as a ROM.

It also has a fun easter egg in which if you beat Hard Mode, you're given a link to a version of the game where you play as a Koopa. I had to use Wayback Machine to obtain my prize, but I've uploaded it to smwc.me (Koopa.smc) for posterity.

Just watch ULTIMATE QUICK! (#54) for it. You're a one-hit wonder to start, and they bring it a lot of those fire geysers as raocow said but also do more where you have to hurry to get through it in one piece. Checkpoints are fair, and you get an automatic 1-Up to circumvent having to retry the level over and over again.

our bets for what the final level uploaded is going to be, in descending likelihood:
  • Little Timmy Mode that has been preserved in amber
  • someone from the preservation project made another level for this exact purpose
  • just a normal level! just an ordinary stage!
  • someone NOT from the preservation project made a level for this purpose, unaware of its purpose
  • Oil Slider Stage. Fuck You, And Fuck Me As Well. Merry Christmas
  • capcom?
  • something not aforementioned above

Today, we give thanks that there was no MMPU2 because the bonus levels for that one would've been a nightmare of Quick Man laser gauntlets.

Oil Man saying "that was too easy" at the end of all that feels like an insult and i'm not even the one playing the game!
