But the map music is North Korean propaganda.
Really? Anyone got a full version?

I was really hoping raocow would tell us that these levels illustrated the contrasting attitudes different people brought to the game again.

THE LIFE OF MARIO
It's like this level but with more progression. The name is a reference to kanye west's album THE LIFE OF PABLO (the level's author was listening to his whole discography while they were making yump levels).
If you don't get the moon you're a pussy.
BOOM
Just a speedrun level. Its placement after nuclear facility is no coincidence.

the lava rising up at mach speed, the amazing thunder effects, the tiger sprite...

would've been way more clever if there was a p-switch at the top and you had to go all the way to the bottom of the level after pressing it
but i mean the level would've still sucked hardcore

Was going to post the ProtonJon video, but I see the level commentary already did that for me.
Boom was pretty neat.

it's actually possible to P-speed jump between the thwomps at the very end, although it's precise.
Some say that Kim Jong Un is building an invisible bridge to California...

I gotta say, although the life of mario level looked tedious to play, it was sort of interesting to watch because it had elements of interesting design in there. I thought the branching trees were clever; I haven't really seen a case where the invisible coin blocks stop you with a ceiling in the middle of the climb, so you have to hop in from another branch and continue climbing from there. It's just that it's easy to turn into unfair or poor design when the blocks are, well, invisible.
I felt that BOOM really plays with your mind. Having a Thwomp above you makes you think you need to move away from it when that's not necessarily the case.

All that practice for the last part, and only by
1/4 of a block that made the difference between precise timing and cheesing it
that raocow finishes the blue switch palace.

Midway point would give a mushroom, and a point of his puzzle was to get a mushroom.
Also, wow, literally everybody breaks this level in different ways. Somehow.
The level's author felt that this hack needed a SCW reference so they went ahead and made one. This level was updated several times due to it being utterly broken. It can still be broken very easily though - you can do what raocow did, but you can also go in the red berry hole without yoshi, activate one of the note blocks, eat the berry, and exit. Of course you can also abuse the double berry glitch. You can also do this if you want to.
The author doesn't particularily mind these breaks. There is a reason why this level is in YUMP - it's a janky concept that works in theory, but not in practice.
Fun fact: if you go over the ceiling and go left for a very long time, you'll eventually get to a dead end with  pixelart.

The Mushroom House is one of my favourite levels (but I really love SCW). I notice the author has been updating the level since I played it. There was no checkpoint (let alone a midpoint) in that version.
Speaking of such things, I was thinking about checkpoint/midpoint (let's consider them synonymous) in actual real Nintendo games and worth-while romhacks.
SMB1: invisible cps, but not every level--say 65%
SMB2: every sublevel entrance, wasn't it?--say 250%
SMB: none, zilch, diddly-squat, zippo--0%
SMW: almost all apart from star/special/etc--say 85%
---
Average of all games: 100%
So we see Nintendo, after initially not knowing what to do, then going crazily to the edges, tending to the golden mean of 100%.
Now let's consider some romhacks.
JUMP: every level has at least one and some levels go a bit crazy--say 125%
VLDCX: every level has a midpoint, a moon, a 1-up checkpoint, 5 dragon coins and a secret exit-- say 150%
YUMP: although we've seen quite a few levels without midpoints, there is one level with so many cps it makes up for all of them --say 100%.
So YUMP, if it appears 'wrong' at the moment is actually nearest to the nintondo gold standard. Food for thought.

I like to live by the rule that if a game is going to cheese you, you get to cheese the game. I'm more than satisfied with that final berry solution.

bowser's evil test
A level inspired by the many evil levels in youtube hacks that would involve fooling the player and weird complicated looking puzzles. That's about it.
next time: more puzzle

Video that may or may not be relevant to the title of today's level:
I'm legit not sure if the title being "bowser's evil test" was supposed to be an ElectricalBeast reference or just a coincidence.

If it weren't for the very beginning forcing you to time up when you inevitably mess up and the last part of the Yoshi section being so overly cramped this didn't actually seem like too terrible a level in the end.
