Yes, 'it's supposed to be bad' isn't a good excuse for everything, but you can't pick and choose what you want to hear from the developers. You were also told 'savestates are encouraged for maximum fun' (from here). Only a few crazy people will do without (and I admit I was one of these people).
But I'm really annoyed raocow played this for three hours when he gave up on 1F8 almost immediately. That wasn't my favourite level but I think it's worth playing and if you played it for three hours you would probably have beaten it or be near to beating it and you would mostly have enjoyed yourself. But it's up to you how you want to spend your time.

Oof, hearing those swears hurt. Too bad you were still too sore about the level to leave a warning in the description.

It's like it's saying "haha you're an idiot and I hate you" to anyone who wants to see everything the game has to offer.

Re: YUMP - Yeah! Updated Mthe Pthread
I think the reason for this is expectations, and a specific way in which my brain seems to be broken. Everyone and their pets warned me abotu 1F8 and eventually I internalised it. Nobody warned me about GAY SHT so I went in to beat the level, and... my mind was set on beating the level.morsel/morceau wrote: ↑6 years ago But I'm really annoyed raocow played this for three hours when he gave up on 1F8 almost immediately. Had nobody went out of their way to demonise 1f8 I would have given it a fair shot, and probably beaten it.

Somehow the most insulting part of all of this is that this level apparently went through multiple fucking iterations just to make it worse.
What a fucking flaming pile of garbage. I'm sorry you had to play that.

I listened to the whole video. I dunno why. The sad rant near the end actually almost got me in tears. I just want to add that your videos are such a constant in my life and have been since I discovered your channel. They usually help give me a consistent good thing no matter how bad or chaotic the day can get. This is just an outlier.
As for the level itself, why did this even make it into the hack unedited? it doesn't even fit the theme of the other bad levels of being a spammy edit.

Let's list the wrong things this level has done:
- Munchers everywhere
- Ice Physics
- Demand of precision-based movement
- Use of repetitive maneuvers
- Random Eiree generator
- One tile jumps
- Strict time limit

Re: YUMP - Yo, Master's Tangos are Protected
I knew that this level had something to do with Mario Maker. Those levels pop up pretty often in both expert and super expert... but even those are often far superior to this one.
YUMP is overall okay with some warts on it, but this level brings a very strong argument to not finish YUMP.... It was the worst that raocow's ever played, and that's saying something.

Re: YUMP - Yeah! Updated Mthe Pthread
The thing about this level is that it wasn't meant to be beaten.
The problem is, it's a level, and levels clearly meant to be beaten.
If that helps, it's either the worst level in the game or second worst level. And you won't see that other candidate for worst level for quite a while, as it's at the end of postgame, so...

that level was just pure not fun, wow :/. i don't even know how the author (no hate meant towards them) could even think this is ok, it's just so visibly awful even as a joke. raocow's outburst was justified but it still made me sad :(
Re: YUMP - Yeah! Updated Mthe Pthread
I still haven't played any of the postgame, but nothing is nearly as bad as this in Bowser land.
I think this level does not belong in the game, and especially not as an obligatory path to the red switch. YUMP is advertised as really bad and it really kind of is, but it's also almost entirely playable and secretly cares about reasonability. It's a game to be enjoyed, but this completely misses the point

When you think about it, 38 looks like a sad face on its side. I couldn't watch much of this one outside of the first frustrated outburst and ending, but yeah. I'll echo what Maiku said in the comments by saying props to you for not making this a zero episode today.
Re: YUMP - Yeah! Updated Mthe Pthread
I looked in the video, saw what the level was, skipped right to the end just to see what the next level is, then nope'd out. Nope, don't wanna watch raocow's soul be crushed by a level. It's funny when he dies a lot to simple obstacles, and he'll typically laugh at those, too. It's NOT funny when a level is so garbage it crushes his soul into tiny pieces, then blows them away on the wind.
I do have to question why the leaders of this accepted this level knowing it's not what they wanted for the hack at all.

Re: YUMP - Yeah! Updated Mthe Pthread
putting this here just 4 others to see, but yump is theoretically possible savestateless. post-game is about as hard as this level is, but it's a lot less tedious lol. as you can see, gay sht leads to the red switch, and the red switch leads back to possibly kaizo. where does possibly kaizo lead to?
post-game! so it's kind of just an extension of post-game since nothing gay sht onwards really has any impact on bowser world. i am pretty sure raocow will use savestates in post-game, and him using them here would've been fitting. however, since it's blind he obviously doesn't have the ability to see the future.
part of yump was always about just invoking anger in people, but angrycow is saddening to watch . yump kinda morphed as it went along, but it never really settled for a single identity. part of yump was kind of about some vague notion of self-imposed punishment, that "why the fuck am i playing this??" thought. it's disjointed, inconsistent, and odd. gay sht would've probably been in post-game if it wasn't here, frankly. time limit should've been higher and that's probably all we should've changed in my opinion. i dont think ldad had much trouble with this level, but he is also an incorporeal being.
finishing yump is up to you. i think much of the rest of yump will be brutal and test your skills, but none of it as tedious or lazily constructed as gay sht is. whether you want to weigh tool use and having fun vs spending forever on essentially kaizo-light levels is up to you, and i think you'll have really long recording sessions for a lot of the rest of this project, but there are still many neat ideas in these. but you've made it this far so giving up outright would be a shame.
Re: YUMP - Yeah! Updated Mthe Pthread
you don't usually go through a hack (especially of this intentional shit quality) without experiencing some of the worst it could offer. despite this level crossing a certain line of being appalling, it served it's purpose, whether you think it's still a bad thing or not.
all the contributions by the authors were done in an unapologetic way. there was no anticipation (or guaranteed one) that people would like them as it was just a hack made for the thirst of creative liberation with no barriers and just wanting to fuck around (besides like, making it playable without tools, but there's a lot of exceptions to it (some weren't tested, but are possible anyways)). Slightly similar to people who made those hacks years ago for youtubers to get mad at.
I don't know if we should have been louder, more persistent, or careful in sending this message, but it is what it is man. you don't have to keep playing it besides the mandatory "I've gone this far into the hack, no reason for me to just stop".

Re: YUMP - Yeah! Updated Mthe Pthread
I will admit I very much mistook what YUMP was suppose to be. All this time I thought the joke was "It's suppose to be bad" but turns out that the levels are mostly really good despite the intentional jank. I said this on the comments on youtube but the first 7 episodes were a joy cause of how nice and creative the levels got. I'd LOVE if an entire romhack continued that joke that "This looks bad and the mechanics are bad" but used in a way that is legit fun and creative were everything actually works, front to back. If I knew the purpose was to invoke anger, I wouldn't have wasted 38 days watching this and knowing rao just wasted 38 days. Why the hell would people want to feel mad when life is already doing a good job of that already?
I can art and sprite. Don't worry about it.
