The pause message thing is, like the broad design and graphical elements, lifted from the original game but modified with additional quotes and with some references removed - which itself I think may be a nod to Eversion.
God I love Pause Ahead and I love this re-imagination of it with Mario.

I had never heard of Eversion prior to this post.

i think the moments where you were expected to move reeeealy slow were a bit off but otherwise this was a pretty great level yeah, even if the concept isn't original

As everyone else said, this is incredible, though not original with the concept/aesthetics. It still has really nice design while accounting for smbx's weird character momentum.
My only gripe with it is that it's so long that it's more of a whole game than a level, haha.

This is probably my favourite level in the contest.

I meant the original Pause Ahead references Eversion with one of its messages, and the very messages themselves are a lot like the ones in Eversion. Sorry for the confusingly-worded sentence.

I get the impression the entire thing took less time than any individual room of minimal maximal though so

I remember seeing Pause talked about in codehaus and then spending a good chunk of time playing through Pause Ahead. Easily the level I've been looking forward to the most in this LP.
And oh jeez, thank goodness you accounted for that death glitch, 0x! Or SMBX just happened to work like that. Either way, major relief rao didn't have to replay up to that point.

I think he didn't. The pause button is just not properly overridable.

This level would have been greatly improved without the dumb author messages at the beginning of each room and the removal of the Pause screen messages.

That was amazing! I had no idea you could replicate Pause Ahead with LunaLua. It's just so powerful now! Today's level was such a great homage to the original flash game. Congrats The0x539!

If you think that's power, clearly you've not been on codehaus.

That message about Mario having to live his whole life again whenever he dies reminds me of Roy: A Life Well Lived from Rick and Morty.
Also I liked this level.

Another good pause message would be NON-GRINDY DIFFICULTY

Too bad I made this
for the contest and not
after it. Also, IT'S HER is going into the version updated to use Beta 4 tech, which I'll put out when Beta 4 drops.

"A black wind blows through you" is actually Cave Story. Chrono Trigger's is "A black wind begins to blow".
Also, the first 'you' reference was Keep Going.
