It's cool when a level establishes a formula and plays with it a bit. The enemies in the kill rooms can spawn on your face without warning, which is really annoying. I think everything else has already been said.

It looked to me like you might be able to jump on an enemy and get past the wall before the back-and-forth platforming section, so you could take a springboard over the wall with you and skip that last section entirely.

Is that possible, or is the wall too high?

I didn't think today would be a one-level video

Sure was a lot of plucking bombs out of the ground to open the way forward in today's level. I think the level would've benefited from only having one "here's a giant rock that you have to use 3 or 4 bombs to clear a path through" sections, instead of multiple.

I'll give a third to that. The way this level builds up your knowledge of the gimmicks slowly and starts putting them together is really awesome. Giving a midpoint before you need to learn a new gimmick is also quite nice because you can experiment more easily. I did encounter a bug where the red spikes would never show up (regardless of which direction I was facing) until I died once. My only other gripe with the level is that I didn't know that you could let go of the run button to walk more slowly in the room where Mario walks automatically. Without that knowledge, that room becomes almost silly to complete.

It took me longer than it probably should have to realize that the blocks turning on/off was tied to what direction Mario was facing. Cool level, though.

Simple yet very creative gimmicks with really good flow and execution.
Yeah, this is also one of my favorites in this contest, though imo all of 7NameSam's entries in this contest are incredible lol.

Now that's a good gimmick level. Enough said!

Also, I've been out of the loop on a couple of the last collabs. Is this the first time we've heard Undertale music in one of raocow's videos?

Definitely not. I can provide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EwrcAuna7s and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJiLsKcVNSo as levels raocow played with Undertale music, but I'm fairly sure there was more.

good level, the many midpoints was a very wise decision to allow things to stay challenging while avoiding having failure make things tedious

the direction block bit didnt work completely as it was supposed to as far as i can tell though which is a shame

I remember a level in MAGLX2 had Undertale music, and the deadline for that was before Undertale actually even came out.

I agree that Gimmick Purgatory was great. It's levels like this that make me enjoy seeing what people do with SMBX.

The only one I can think of is Sturg's postgame level using a kazoo version of Megalovania (something along those lines, I think?), which presumably was made a while later, probably? I'm not sure!

oh no

Although I wonder why we will see this long (I suppose) 2 exit level tomorrow and not today replacing the B-Side?

Well that level was cute (and more comprehensible than the text boxes in Luigi's Adventure OSE).

...The description kinda worries me that tomorrow's video will be some sort of 30 minute monstrosity, though.

to be fair megalovania was also around before undertale (although not nearly as popular as it is today). As far as "Music literally from the game" goes, this may have been the first time since even the magl3 version was adapted to the snes soundfont.

It does have two exits, but getting the secondary exit is much easier than getting the primary one. "Primary" meaning whichever you get first. You'll see.
