The swamp level was pretty cool. It would have been easy for that level to be very generic, but new elements were introduced often enough to keep it fresh. Of course, the level still needs a midpoint.
It seems pretty difficult to make a level entirely out of keys and still have everything make visual sense, but I think Okome pulled it off. Things are a little busy, so I often needed to take a second to scope things out before making a jump. I felt like I was always given time to do that, which is good because this level would have been irritating otherwise. Of course, the level still needs a midpoint.
I think in fourth level, all pipes lead to in-escapable bonus room. I heard that SMBX 38A has a feature to set up double way pipes, except... I guess it was incorrectly used and the author didn't test it for some reason??
Increasing easy boss's HP from 3 to 18 is truly the best way to increase difficulty of a battle. Huh?
I think the second level that was played had two exits, but the second one is somewhat dumb.
My warnings were useless! You had the exact same experience as me, down to getting the crashing star and then getting forced down the secret pipe on the way back!
from the past few vids i am making the assumption that midpoints don't natively exist in 38A and the first level today was so broken because it used custom midpoints
this is my canon and you can't tell me otherwise
i've honestly never played a video game in my life

There's a limit of 100 midpoints.

That Shell powerup only featured in the first NSMB for the DS, and never showed up again... and it's quite easy to see why. When you run with it at a certain speed, you become a shell. My feelings for it are mostly reflected in raocow's experiences, except I'm more aggressive with it, and often slide into a pit as a result.
On another note... those two levels were a big step down from what we've seen so far. And never make Mario characters shadowy unless you have a good reason for it. ...Actually, I think that applies to everything. You need light in your life. I'm stopping this train before I become more philosophical.
I am prone to almost everything... except spontaneous violence.
Any questions, concerns, or aspirations you have with me can go to the PM box... Now here's a quote:

In hindsight, since the first level of today's video outright required it for progression, it might've been a good idea to put a note to the effect of "Yo, walljumps are totally a thing in 38-A" in the hub.

Now to be fair, you warned against going into pipes. raocow had no way of knowing there was a pipe there, and you said nothing about getting the star.

I was going to warn him about the star, but then stopped myself because it would be funny :v

Nah, man, the Blue Shell powerup was awesome. Though it functioned better there because levels were designed for it, and the top speed of shells aren't as fast as SMBX. And shells in SMBX are more 'bouncy' than official Mario games. At least those ones stick to the ground on down slopes.
Blue Shell also appeared in Mari&Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
