Oh boy, time to Dopple it up!
AFAIK, X3's the last time Zero uses his buster as his main weapon--after that, he just goes straight for his Saber and hardly if ever looks back. Not that that's going to matter this LP, since outside of special circumstances it looks like raocow's just going to go X on everything.
Anyway, can't wait to see if Blast Hornet's first on the list tomorrow!

Ah, X3. I was able to play X1 and X2 intimately soon after their respective releases, but I unfortunately never came into contact with a physical copy of X3, so it wasn't until emulation I was able to properly experience it. I know where most of the junk is and how to get it, but as for neat little anecdotes and whatnot...I'm afraid things'll be sorely lacking on my end. :(
Anyway, I like to start with Blizzard Buffalo here. He has the leg upgrade, and unlike Overdrive Chickenfoot, it doesn't require any extraneous items to obtain. He's also got a hilarious programming oversight that makes him a sitting duck and a prime first boss for defeat.

As I mentioned on the video comments, this one has a handful of actual secrets. I won't go into detail on what the two big ones are, but I do feel it prudent to suggest a boss order specifically to allow the opportunity for certain things to happen. Given that it also happens to be the boss weakness order, I'm spoilering it. I've also added a couple notes to specific bosses, mostly about other things that are weak to the weapon obtained from them. Those have been inline-spoilered as well with their names either from the Japanese version OR flat-out not given (primarily because the relevant parties haven't been shown and won't be shown for another couple videos)
Blast Hornet
Blizzard Buffalo (
weakness for Vajurila FF
)
Toxic Seahorse
Tunnel Rhino (
weakness for Mandarela BB
)
Volt Catfish
Crush Crawfish (
weakness option A for ????
)
Neon Tiger (
weakness option B for ????
)
Gravity Beetle
For reference, on the stage select screen, the arrangement is as follows:
Blast Hornet, Blizzard Buffalo, [X], Gravity Beetle, and Toxic Seahorse
Volt Catfish, Crush Crawfish, [FINAL], Tunnel Rhino, Neon Tiger
([FINAL] is where the final stages will be located on the stage select screen... it's kinda obvious when you look at it.)

X3 has a few touches that are worth pointing out when you come across them. It's fun, but it also ditches the fast-paced and interestingly themed levels of X2 for hiding a lot of stuff in levels instead. Also, good job taking down Dr. Eggman's latest robot today.

Ouch, that was a LOT of death, but that lets me segue into this little bit of trivia: anyone remember Nintendo Power magazine? They used to host challenges where entrants could win prizes by submitting photos of themselves accomplishing certain feats, and one of the two Megaman X3 challenges presented was to clear Blast Hornet's stage with no upgrades (the other was Tunnel Rhino). Our dear intrepid raocow has shown us just how much of a challenge that could very well be!

Oh geez, if raocow's struggling this much with the intended first boss, he's gonna have a time in the Doppler stages.

I wonder what the odds are that raocow would consider playing the two MegaMan Xtreme games on the Game Boy Color?

Parasitic Bomb confirmed to be (mostly) broken.
Also, you can cheese Blizzard Buffalo by jumping as he turns around to charge at you. Somehow he won't see you and think you're still in the air, letting you pelt him with buster shots without issue. I'll let CORE-Games explain it better.

I mean maybe he's easy if you know how to break him but... I didn't know how, and I definitely didn't stumble into it!

I never liked how this game explicitly mentions the past two games, but never explains what happened to all of X's cool upgrades from the last game either.

It turns out Dr Light's just really shitty at designing add-ons that last, and they constantly break right after X beats Sigma.

Oof, raocow. I feel like that was a bit of a needless death montage there, considering you actually already have Blizzard Buffalo's weakness weapon!
It was interesting watching someone fight him the intended buster-only way, though, and with minimal upgrades at that.

All jokes aside, I remember just clinging to the wall and jumping over him. The boss AI in X3 is... less than genius.

I'm pretty sure you have to hold the button down when doing the upwards air dash or it will cancel on you. No tap dashing up here.
Buffalo's a fight where you have to keep him on screen but also keep your distance so he doesn't chuck those Frost Shield shards right on you at super speed. Jumping off the wall regularly and then air dashing is best for a lot of bosses in this game, and this dude is no exception. Also, the clockwise pattern you're doing is pretty smart. It's not totally reverse order, but those two on the bottom left if you don't have items or armor... Uh, have fun.

I just checked a guide, you need a specific Ride Armor before you can use any of them.
And that specific one is in Blast Hornet's stage, so, we won't be seeing any until it's collectathon time.
That seems like a silly decision to me - since the armor requires another boss weapon to get, that means you need to take a pretty specific route to be able to use Ride Armor on your first visit to a stage.

In today's video, we see x3's halfassed attempt at bringing back level changes from x1. Those green missile launching dudes are more dangerous red versions until you beat Explose Horneck, and that change applies to all stages. That heart isn't available in Gravity's Beetbood's stage until Horneck's dead, too. There's a few other minor changes but I think only two stages change anything and those stages have their changes apply to all areas.
