"It's such a peaceful area, but platform-wise it's like sheer maniacal laughter."

Also Re: YCZ Special World Level 3 Ridiculousness
I did not play this level very long, but I laughed out loud when I read the title and saw that it lived up to its name.

Lunar Magic says there is a switch block in a secret area in the spring board sub level. The only exit leading to that sub level, besides the invisible warp tiles, is in the very first screen. It looks like if you take the P-switch all the way back to the beginning, or as far as you can at least, there is a blue door by the fireflower box. That door should lead you to the switch.

I haven't really given this level a full shot yet though, so I'm not 100% sure that's the solution, but it's the only thing that seems possible from where I'm looking

I love how the snapshot on the YouTube embedded video shows Mario dying to what looks like the background. Pretty much sums up the video.

Seriously. Having to redo the entire level because I missed a slightly ridiculously hidden secret at the very beginning?

:rage:

EDIT:
Oh god. I don't even want to imagine raocow trying to do that last level savestateless D:

If you've played to this point, you might already be used to those kicks in the pants.

Honestly ... this hack is hard to defend after you've been through.
The first two worlds had a much different tone to it. I was totally not expecting this.

World 5 is okay though ...
After it the difficulty ranges from "easy as pie" to "unfair and broken".

Cup pretty much summed it up:
"It takes a nasty turn."

Have some fate in raocow! Sure, he will get his ass kicked, gets really pissed of and cameo's of PPR might become the standard, but I'm sure he can do it. It just takes time and maybe he needs 1 or 2 hints regarding some exits but he will come far savestateless I'm sure.

After 3 hours of cut footage with no more commentary than random outbursts of French vulgarities. GOOD TIMES!!

I didn't know you could phase through the ghosts like that. Your knowledge of the smw engine sure is impressive.
After todays video i have no doubt that you have the endurance (and maybe insanity) to go trhough this game savestateless.

Just ... prepare for some unfair and hardcore levels like this one, later on.
And boy ... you're right with the infinite lives one. There will be a second secret area in World 6, but it has no one-ups.

Guess it's no spoiling if i tell you this:
In Level 5-6 you have to go all the way back to the first area to get your lives and maybe power-ups.
In World 7 there will be a shortcut to the early Worlds though.

I kind of like his post commentary better (at least for now) cause he actually talks about the game. Then again, I never really found his "random chatter" as hilarious as I take it other people do. I am in it for the Mario hacking

Oh ... i forgot to mention:
If you revisit the World 6 castle you might farm 1ups in the beginning of the level.
Like ... 20 in 2min.

If this information holds you back from using a game genie cheat.

You should just start hex editting the games so you don't lose lives. It's the same thing as going back and farming for them IMO

...All that work for literally NO gain whatsoever? Really? That is what you want to do game? REALLY?!

I am still enjoying this hack overall, but that was something beyond being merely a dick move. Hopefully the secret exit will be short and sweet.

I mean geez, they could have at LEAST had the decency to take you to the level directly beside it, but nooo... oi.

I'm starting to think Haimari just really, really hates people who want to 100% SMW hacks.

I can think of no other explaination for this level.

Most people get mad at the game for hard levels. Honestly, I enjoy watching raocow die a lot.

Don't bother with the game genie thing raocow, the secret area in world 6 actually has a spot to farm lives super quickly.
All you have to do is be big and bounce on the shell.

[generic silly voice]dur raocow where can i download teh windows movie creator that u use i half windows & but dont half it i want to chimpunk my videoes lol plz gib link tx[/voice]

Personally, I like video game videos unfiltered, because I grew up with blocky graphics and danged if video games aren't supposed to be blocky. But I'm guessing I'm in the minority in that situation, so filter or blitter or interpolate or whatever you call it away!

Kind of like my complaint about the two HARD routes in 4 shells only taking you back to the start again...that's just MEAN. Like, a big fuck you from the game. Definitely don't like that one :(.

Though you do seem to be enjoying yourself still, raocow, and the commentary was spot-on today, too. I think you were really bothered by your computer and editing problems...it's far better this way, when you're relaxed :).

The level, though...bah. It's of a difficulty I haven't really seen yet in a hack. It's not Kaizo, Kaizo is many specific ridiculous obstacle. This one, though, was one SINGLE obstacle. Of course, peppered with ridiculous situations, but alone those wouldn't be too bad...taken as a whole, though, that level seems insurmountably hard. It WAS surmountable, but it required persistence like few else.

raocow, if you want the smoothness for ZSnes, you go to Config → Video and make it have filters for the video mode and than in the filters tab, check the "Super 2XSai" box and it'll make it smooth. :D

I also would like to hear his reaction.
...but they just won't be as hard as the last one. With the exception of that castle maybe. Still i escpecially want to see the underwater-current level !

And kaizo has good level design that comes with it's difficulty. As well as an actual difficulty CURVE. It also expects you to use savestates throughout the whole game while Hyper V has some levels that don't want you to use tools. But some others are just nasty without them.
It's better to know how a hacker expects you to play his hack. As the player can't anticipate the challenge beforehand.
Just take a look at World 7, where some levels are easy as pie. Like they might as well be from World 2
Kaizotraps are so much more original than just "making something slippery" or include strong wind with masses of boos and moving plattforms.
Oh yeah ... know i know what this level lacked of. Frozen, slippery clouds

Anyways ...
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SWITCH PALACE !

in fact, in the new kaizo hacks forum on smwc, they're sorting out "kaizo" from "modern kaizo"

kaizo being more like the original kaizo 1 and 2 - possible with save states, also possible normally after many tries, then modern kaizo being things like item abuse - save states/rewinds become necessary and may need slowdown

this hack is neither, as of yet (i have not peeked ahead). the wind is ridiculous, but the level is still quite possible especially with the "boo room invincibility" that raocow used in today's video. it just takes a bit of memorization as was said

This is the first time (well today and yesterday) that that atrocious filter has been off since like the end of world 7 in your YT vip 4 LP.
