Now with more babies!: Let's Play Yoshi's Island DS

Hey everyone, time for another new LP. Now that i've gotten a few LP's under my belt, I figured it was time to tackle the DS, which is always a tricky system to LP, which is precisely why I wanted to do it. Not to mention many of my favorite games are on that system. So, I present to you Let's Play Yoshi's Island DS.

For those who don't know, this game is essentially the sequel to Yoshi's Island, a.k.a Super Mario World 2. The gameplay is almost exactly the same, and even the plot is very similar, with the Yoshi's having to save babies from Kamek. Except this time we have 5 babies to use, with each of them giving different abilities, which is one major difference this game has from the original.

I will be getting 100% on this game. Namely, I'll get perfect on all the levels in the game, including the extra and secret levels. I'll also collect all the "baby coins", which are hidden in each level. Considering this game has no items, that's actually somewhat tricky to do, so it'll certainly be an interesting experience.

I'll be doing 1-2 levels per part, depending on time.

You're off to a good start. I like that you explained a lot of the mechanics in detail, and you also made good use of that zoom feature, too.

As for the game itself, I love the fact that you can't hoard +20 star items anymore like you could on the original. I managed to get 100% in the game's normal levels, but man, it was tough. As for the music, it has a few good songs, but there are some huge disappointments in that department.

There ARE good songs in there?

Man, I hate that game. Nothing against you (you're doing a good job), but everything about it just feels so WRONG. Music is a big part, but also Yoshi's sound effects from Yoshi's Story and not from the original, the whole baby system, level design that's just stupidly unfun sometimes...gargh.

Still, I undertook it myself to 100% it. Am about halfway finished and just can't continue, it's so devoid of entertainment, it's amazing...

Anyway...could you tell me what you're using to emulate/capture the DS? I'm interested in doing some myself some time in the future.

Eh, personally I don't mind the changes too much. I recognize the original is better, but I still think the game is good. That's part of the reason why I wanted to LP the game to begin wtih. That being said, I'll probably do the original someday as well.

As for how I'm recording this, its a detailed enough process where I'd prefer to discuss the details in PM, but I am using the DeSuMe emulator.

Its finally time to introduce the second baby. No longer must we endure the annoying cries of Baby Mario. That being said, Baby Peach is just as annoying to hear, so enjoy!

Heh, you think those are bad? Wait till you see the Secret/Extra levels. They're quite brutal and so very cruel in some cases. And I'm going to try and get perfect scores on them.

I can only imagine how failtastic it will get.. :D
