Re: VIP 3 Redux: Odyssey
hey, the level may be incredibly hard, but at least the graphics are pretty. kinda
Re: VIP 3 Redux: Odyssey
vaguely related to today's shenanigans: raocow, ive always wanted to know your opinion on wind levels, or more specifically, if it's possible to make a good one. if so, how would you go about doing so?
Re: VIP 3 Redux: Odyssey
Donkey Kong Country 2 has fantastic wind levels, as does Rayman Origins.MoneyMan wrote:vaguely related to today's shenanigans: raocow, ive always wanted to know your opinion on wind levels, or more specifically, if it's possible to make a good one. if so, how would you go about doing so?
Coincidentally, those are probably the two best platformers ever made. Origins even has incredible unterwater levels.
Re: VIP 3 Redux: Odyssey
Like this nonsense which is pretty much what the underwater part of this level is without reversed controls. And thankfully not using invisible blocks to control wind.Paragraph wrote:Donkey Kong Country 2 has fantastic wind levels
(rest of wind levels in Donkey Kong Country 2 are fine however, I do agree)
Somebody make a P-Balloon level with wind.

That was the most entertaining rao-suffering I have seen in a while. That death at the exclamation point had me cackling.
Re: VIP 3 Redux: FINAL: Grace of Kings
I remember that trap, if I recall the first time raocow played VIP3 he just ragequit the game... I might be mistaken, but he definitely didn't properly finish one of them in the good old googlevideo/dailymotion days.

Re: VIP 3 Redux: FINAL: Grace of Kings
It seems that I was right on all accounts. raocow did take more lives than he had o finish it, the level had more bad sections than we saw, and the times were filled with anger.
Let me go on a little tirade here... Wind is not inherently a bad mechanic. But so many levels use it to restrict your movement. A good level that's difficult is fun, and fun usually involves some freedom of movement, or several actions that are rewarding to complete. The level that we saw for the past two days was NOT either of them. In fact, it was exactly the opposite; enemies that you cannot destroy, wind that is purposefully positioned to get in your way, and instant death everywhere!
You're justified in calling this the worst thing you've played, raocow. It is the antithesis of what makes a good difficult level...
Glad to see you're done with this.

I wonder if the VIP authors beat their levels without savestates.

that was definitely some vip quality
Re: VIP 3 Redux: FINAL: Grace of Kings
I would have made the background turn yellow to warn you when you are about to get wind. Then again, intent would be to actually be fair. VIP guys weren't.
