It's probably the best one for the way raocow tends to play this sort of game anyways.Tenlade wrote:Also, you got 40 silver! Time to get a new costume. my recommendation is still the devil suit, but really, whatever works for you.

Silver Challenges are worth getting (since you're almost there anyway), Gold not so much (at least for the moment, might be worth coming back to do them post-game though).

raocow, re: video description: You actually should get the silver reward since (for reasons spoiled below) it'll lead to the gold if you play your cards right. Besides, two more silvers isn't that difficult going by your record so far.
Then again, you could go back to the Sierra...if you dare!

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - El paraíso perdido
there are 17 challenges in all if i remember correctly. i would HIGHLY recommend getting 10 golds because, well, it's required for a mask piece, which you really should be getting, you'll see why eventually

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - El paraíso perdido
Besides the logo changing (it used to be a not so subtle jab at EA) El Infierno is a LOT more reasonable than it was in the Gold version. Not only do you have access to Intenso, but combo requirements have been reduced across the board (challenge 2 in particular required 400 combo for the gold, and it was entirely possible to combo through every enemy without once getting hit and still not reach that goal. Oi.) and the rewards for getting enough bronze, silver and gold are actually worth it now instead of just being costume unlocks.
As mentioned above, you can totally get a couple more silvers, and the reward for that is absolutely worth it. You should come back later in the game to get the golds, though, since you're still missing one important ability that will help a lot, if not outright being required to get to some of the doors. Getting gold on every door does nothing besides give you an achievement, and that's absolutely not worth it in any sense of the word, so feel free to pick and choose at your leisure once you've played through them all at least once.
A very important trick to getting combo in the combo challenges is to use your chicken! Most of the challenges will have a couple of green "goomba" skeletons at the start, and it's easy enough to read their tells and dodge as a chicken while using your miniscule damage to rack up a good 40+ combo before the arena even starts. This was literally the only way I managed the 400 combo requirement in challenge 2, so I'm very glad to see that was fixed.

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - El paraíso perdido
Ah, raocow did good in most of the challenges. I am really surprised that he got a few gold medals in his first try.
As everyone says, I would advice you that you get the 2 silver medals you need, as you get something...interesting for getting 10 silver medals. Perhaps you could try room 3 and 9, now that you know what to do. Even you could try room 8 if you use dodges more.
By the way, I saw that you had problems with the flower plant monsters in the survival room. Try using your Frog Slam move when they are buried, and you will get them out of the ground without a sweat.
And now, for the references.
- The mexican references, phrases and words:
1:42 "Piso 2". "Piso" means "floor". So, you are in "floor 2".
4:08 "Santa golpiza". A literal translation would be "holy beating", but the meaning wouldn't be that the beating is holy. In this context, when you say "holy beating" you mean that it was a really brutal beating, and, in this case...174 hits it is not short of brutal.
17:20 "Macizo". It would mean "solid" in spanish. If we take the context into account, it means that your performance with your combos was solid and great.
- The videogame references and others:
12:38 I feel that the chicken portrait is the only notorious thing that may be referencing something, but I am at a loss here. I can't tell the reference here.

I like how the doors don't need 100% completion. It makes for nice scaling difficulty, as people have option on which challenges to complete better.
Re: ¡Guacamelee! - El paraíso perdido
Room 11 was my personal favorite challenge to play. I actually found it pretty fun to figure out just how to get through it. And it sounds like the prizes are a lot better, especially since as far as I'm aware the gold edition's prizes (which were just costumes) are now just normally unlockable costumes, albeit expensive ones.
Isn't that typical for Youtube comments? A lot of the people over there don't seem to understand the concept of a spoiler.dr_kraid wrote:These Youtube comments are pissing me off

Since you asked in the description, get that silver door opened now. The gold one can and should wait for the time being. Oh, and you did Challenge #9 exactly how you were supposed to.

Started playing this yesterday because it's been looking really fun, and I made quite a bit of progress. Got as far as getting the dash attack and then went around hunting stuff with it.
There are several things that raocow can do in Santa Luchita now, it would be worth a revisit at some point. Checking out the Chicken Cavern would be good, too.

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - El paraíso perdido
And now I'm ahead of the previous video. Got golds on challenges 1-12, did several sidequests raocow hasn't yet, and I've got a bunch of upgrades. Enough for the achievement.
Hardest was probably the throw-enemies-into-the-spike-wall one, I had a strategy there but I also needed a lot of luck to get it to work right. The obstacle courses took me a little while, but after the first they're more about not making mistakes than needing to move super-fast.
The combo challenges are easy if you take advantage of the throwing costume (weaker punches) and chicken form (pecking is incredibly weak). Because it takes you so many hits to kill, you can rack up a lot in the easy phases of the fights and just have to worry about surviving once the tougher enemies come out. Probably the silliest thing I did was getting the gold requirement on the no-throws challenge just by pecking the first two armadillos to death.

Yeah, you've got the combat down to a science at this point, and now you don't have to worry about wondering how to break those purple blocks anymore.

Anyway, raocow's finally found his first of six Chac Mool pieces! They're mysterious artifacts hidden in side areas that really challenge your skills (combat in Caverna's case). I'm not going to spoil what exactly they do, but I do know that not getting them all may result in a Bad Time.
As for El Infierno, while it's unfortunate you still need that last ability to get further in I'm still hoping you do so as soon as you get it. You might have more chances to go for the gold!

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Poncho :(
I'll repeat what someone else said earlier, if you grab an enemy, you can drag them into the other dimension. Useful when you got 1 dude in one dimension, and the rest in the other.
For example, in the mines, there was that whirlwind swordsman (four sword guy) surround by red skeletons in the other dimension. You could have dragged him into their dimension, and have everyone on the same playing field. You did this accidently with a cactus bomb.
Also, I noticed that some enemies can change the colour of their shield after they regenerate! Watch out for that. I wonder if there are any guys with purple shields?
Also, BUY A COSTUME!

Man, that would be asking for all sorts of trouble. Imagine having to become a chicken, lay an egg, transform back and wait for it to explode to break a shield while the enemy prepares to attack or dodge. I'm sure it would mess up your combo if you took too long to do all that.Sebby19 wrote:Also, I noticed that some enemies can change the colour of their shield after they regenerate! There are no purple shields, as the purple power is an entirely optional powerup.
There aren't even that many purple blocks in the overworld, no more than 10 total, I haven't actually counted though.

Got the last ability (at least, goat-man says it's his last statue) and I'm already looking forward to raocow's reaction when he gets it. It's pretty fun to use. I also bought everything from the store except the useless-in-singleplayer Respawn Boost. Which I'm going to buy anyways once I get the money, because why not.
Of course, now I have a big collectathon to do. That's going to take a while.

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Poncho :(
Alright, at last, the elusive power of exploding eggs is raocow's power. I don't know if it deals a good amount of damage to the enemies, but at least helps for opening those side paths in the game. And not only raocow gets the power, but also his first mask piece. There are several more in the game, and you may not be able to get them until you get the final power, but after that, you will be able to do all the challenges without asking yourself "Do I really can beat this with my current abilities?".
And for today's references...what? No real references to be explained and phrases to be translated today? It must be my free day for your usual Juanbro knowledge.
Oh, and raocow, with your current skills, you can complete two of the sidequests in Santa Luchita. I think that there is even a third one that you can at least start, close to the "entrance" to the desert via Santa Luchita.

raocow, If you don't get all the chac mool pieces, you won't have all the chac mool pieces, and that will be very sad. You also totally missed the hidden treasure in the house at about 7 minutes into your last upload. Explore that house some more!
