Re: ¡Guacamelee! - "Soy un luchador furioso, tú gringo inflamable!"
Looks like I partly misremembered the War Temple. The autoscroll section I mentioned was the one in this video. And I don't know if they changed it or if raocow just had less trouble than I did but it was the very last saw near the end of the room that gave me so much trouble. I died a handful of times in similar spots to raocow but died quite a lot on that last saw. Also on gold edition when you die there you don't just respawn at the bottom of the room. You respawn a few rooms back instead iirc making it even more obnoxious.
I think it was less luck than it was raocow actually being pretty okay at the combat in the game and Flame Face being weirdly easy. I had even less trouble than raocow did but struggled just as much with X'tabay.Joseph Staleknight wrote:Speaking of Flame Face, raocow was lucky to do him in in one round. Unlike X'tabay, Flame Face has no checkpoints in his fight. This along with his predilection for remembering his bottomless magazines this time, his flame-based attacks, and his mooks make him a great deal tougher than the previous boss. Probably doesn't help that his fight is preceded by a rather annoying one-directional maze of vines and insta-kill saws--I too had some difficulty clearing them.

From what I saw hard mode probably does not change much else exept for the difficulty, so we probably won't be seeing that one. The fight was pretty neat looking still at least.

When I was reading up about this game I was surprised by how many people said they found it too difficult, because I never felt like I had any real trouble with it. Maybe STCE has some significant tweaks or maybe I'm just better at platforming than I think I am. It might actually be the latter, the
I think the main issue is that some of the button combinations you're expected to use are a bit weird, but I don't know if that's just a Wii U thing. It's very easy to trip over the switch between wall-dashing and special moves and I kept pressing the wrong shoulder buttons and turning into a chicken when I meant to dodge. Oops!

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Desafortunado
STCE definitely has some fairly significant tweaks that make it a lot easier overall. Though in my personal opinion it's less difficulty than it is what I see as bad design decisions in the gold edition anyways. The difficulty itself is pretty alright for the most part.dr_kraid wrote:When I was reading up about this game I was surprised by how many people said they found it too difficult, because I never felt like I had any real trouble with it. Re: ¡Guacamelee! - El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha
That was from Thursday's video. I am yet to list the references of Friday's video. The Doctor wrote:There was the Return of the Jedi reference.Juanbro wrote:- The videogame references and others:
Unless I am blind, I did not notice one in the video.
El Presidente's daughter: "Your overconfidence is your weakness."
Calaca: "Your faith in your friends is yours"
Ok, while the normal fights are still bearable (except when raocow makes it harder when the game clearly gives you the way to activate Intenso but he doesnt), the plataforming is starting to pick up in difficulty, like the portion before the boss, and a couple of sidepaths that mister the cow missed (he missed a Dashing Derpderp block in the tall room where he came back after getting that power).
Oh, and everyone is talking about optional powerups. In my opinion it would be best to wait until you get the last ability, because most, if not all of those optional powerups require you to have them.
And now, for the references of Friday's video.
-The mexican references, phrases and words:
1:12 "Compadre". Now that I saw that word again, "pal" would be a very fitting word for the english analog.
16:19 "Borracho". Yeah, a "drunk". I think raocow pronounced it correctly.
16:34 "Chiquita". It would translated to "petite girl". It is used almost the same as "mamacita", but it is a bit less vulgar. Still...is vulgar, but not as vulgar as "mamacita".
16:50 "Muchachita". And then we have another way to refer to a woman in the same way as "mamacita" or "chiquita". This one would be the less vulgar of the three, it may not sound even vulgar. Sometimes is used to refer to a woman as a "foolish girl", but it not translates to that.
-Videogame references and others:
15:50 Another reference that I may not be getting. Not from the defeated snakes, but from the guy that is standing above them.
16:58-17:01 As The Doctor said, a reference to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

I can't wait to see which costume he'll buy next, he has at least 35 silver.
Also, don't forget to turn in all those ingredients for that recipe, and learn whatever new combos you can do. There must be a bunch now...
As for that missing band member sidequest, is rao also able to complete that by now?
I'm guessing the blue power for Juan is a shoulder charge, right?

I think the one that would probably work best for raocow is 40 silver so he's close but not quite there yet.Sebby19 wrote:I can't wait to see which costume he'll buy next, he has at least 35 silver.
Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Desafortunado
You seem to have a good handle on the combat to not even need to tap into the power of Intenso, but the platforming part is a little more suspect with all the buttons the game requires you to use. Dimension shifting at the right time, more than once per jump, is one of the toughest aspects in this game.

I vote that we just rechristen Intenso as "Rave Mode".

And so raocow finds himself eternally damned just for seeing what was up with a certain place.

the one where you have to guide a chicken around a maze of spikes and dimensional walls to its "coop".
. I never did do that one quite fast enough. It doesn't matter, though! You only really need the following number of medals to access some neat goodies:

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Divina Comedia
Huh, raocow breezed through the thorn room in the desert. I had so much difficulty with that and I have a special move that raocow doesn't have yet.
Interestingly, in the Gold Edition, the plant monsters are still in that twisty turny passage room. Why'd they remove them from the STC Edition? It's not as if dodging them is really hard.
Also, I deduce that the Mayan counter thing (being an STC Edition exclusive item) must have something to do with the Intenso meter. I'm presuming it lengthens it.

I'd say it's well worth your interest to check this place you've found yourself in out. You can't do everything now, but it's worth starting.

...I don't feel like changing the title today for some reason.
I've never been down in this place either (which is literally The Inferno, or Hell). It's completely optional for just completing the game (which is what I did), but this is probably essential for other matters at hand...
You have all but one movement option, so you should be able to soldier on through this place. I say you should go for it.

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Divina Comedia
For the whole lack of minimap while playing, it did have one. In the wii U version via the gamepad.
I wouldnt exaclty call intenso a crutch considering that now the game is going to be ramping up the sheilds and monster spam, including enemies with high health, so youre expected to be using upgraded intenso pretty often now, unless you want to take forever with fights. Intenso isn't very much of a good crutch anyway since if you get hit a lot, you'll just waste it being stunned.
Also, you got 40 silver! Time to get a new costume. my recommendation is still the devil suit, but really, whatever works for you.

Welcome to El Inferno. It's basically the post game challenge mode. You really don't need to be here yet.
That said, if you want to stay there, GET THE SKELETON COSTUME. It makes a lot of the challenges much easier.

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Divina Comedia
Ah, more exploration. I can't deny it, I actually explore a lot when I play metroidvanias, trying to be a completionist (and failing in most of the games to get everything). Interestingly enough, raocow makes it really enjoyable to see him just explore and look for things, even if the video itself doesn't provide anything really new.
And...yeah, raocow found out the challenge mode of the game. With your current abilities, you can get the most important things of El Infierno. This one will be a very interesting place to watch.
And now, for the one or two references of the video of today.
- Mexican references, phrases and words:
15:36 "Dinamita Espectral". This one is kind of easy to translate even if you don't know spanish, but just in case...it means "spectral dynamite" in spanish.
16:19 "Chac Mool". Even if it sounds weird, and maybe funny, it is a legit thing. Chac Mool is a kind of statue that have mostly men in the same position as the statue shown in the video at 16:33 (a recumbent man who holds a vessel in his hands while these rest in the belly of the man). By the way, "Mool" is pronounced like "Mol" or "Mall" in spanish.
17:04 "El Infierno". "Hell" in spanish. And, oh boy, raocow totally destroyed the pronountiation. It may be cause some misunderstandings, but I think that you would pronounce if like "In-fee-er-no".
- Videogame references and others:
19:34 That painting is a parody to the Dali's Clock paint, using mexican hats instead of clocks.
