Really hate to change the subject here, but can someone tell me what happened in February that YK said ruined the level?

The things you miss when you don't venture out of the Let's play forum. I too have no idea what's what. It was only until recently did I realize some member are missing, like Spitznagel, and Rena herself.

Did he actually? I hadn't noticed. If that's the case all the judges are horrible and raocow should remove them.ztarwuff wrote:Yeah, he totally didn't prop up my mid 60-something scoring level with a 90-something score.Alice wrote:Clearly Quill is the only good judge since he's the only one that hasn't propped up a level that scored in the mid-60s otherwise with a 90-something score.

Well, I mean... if you look at the charts I did, after you normalize for differing scoring curves, it shows pretty clearly that it's actually Sturg that is the least frequent to prop up or pull down a level by a large margin. This time was very much the exception... Clearly this means we need Sturg as the only judge. All hail overlord Sturg. (Though really, more seriously, diversity in judging more than makes up for if some of the judges pull things up/down more frequently than others, haha)Alice wrote:Did he actually? I hadn't noticed. Ah, I should probably be a bit more clear on those posts, lol. I'm actually mocking LUESoldat.Rednaxela wrote:(Though really, more seriously, diversity in judging more than makes up for if some of the judges pull things up/down more frequently than others, haha)

Hah, I could tell it wasn't meant seriously. Just felt the urge to add disclaimer, as I tend to.

I Read in a Book That in Hyrule, Fortresses Are More Like Hills
Funny jokes and references, and it really is neat to have used Zelda 1's graphics over 2's, and they work really well here. And I guess that's what happens when two bosses are unwilling to not be the dungeon's end boss :P
You're Gonna Need a Bigger Goat
I knew that snifit was familiar, ha. Really nice level with a cool nighttime feel to it. The blocky goat graphics are also cute, and the chimney joke was funny, if maybe just a biiiiit mean-spirited. Just a bit, though.
Two 'I read in a book' levels in a row? And in the world AFTER the library? Ha.

Re: MaGL X2 - I'll take that singular rupee, because I'm a protagonist.
(And all protagonists are thieves by definition)
That koopa under the table has obviously been logic bombed out of Undertale...
There are levels that are, in fact, 70% level and 30% John Cena. Not these two, though.
(29th) Shagg: I Read in a Book That in Hyrule, Fortresses Are More Like Hills
This is just amazing creative prowess, making a top down game work in a 2d platformer! I guess all of those enemies have rough heads, if they can withstand Luigi's jump. Except the slimes.... because they're just a lowly creature. This also is very fair all the way through, and I like the various throwbacks and gags throughout, especially the midpoint room. That put a really big smile on my face. Great job, Shagg!
(28th) Zombieskull88: You're Gonna Need a Bigger Goat
Those Shy Guy sprites are pretty good...
..This was once a farm? I find that hard to believe, with all of the floating landmasses around.
All those goats are nice, too! The level is pretty nice... finding the goats is not too much to ask of the player.
(I knew something was up with that top hat guy...) The barbeque and the boss fight were both very fun, and well-thought out!
Very nice use of the level title!

What would a goat-themed Jaws knock-off be called, anyway?
Horns? Teeth? Hooves?

Re: MaGL X2 - Horikawa x Updating the Thread OTP
It's always neat to see old graphics used in new ways. Both levels were creative with their tilesets and graphics. The first level was really solid all around, and the second level had a bit more platforming and neat custom sprite work. The happy goats eating grass were cute.
Re: MaGL X2 - Horikawa x Updating the Thread OTP
Heeey, it's my level finally! I'm still not entirely sure I deserved to be placed this high but I'll take it, haha.
raocow kinda missed one of the gimmicks and one of the easter eggs, so I think i'll be doing a developer commentary kind of video later? Stay tuned??

Re: MaGL X2 - Horikawa x Updating the Thread OTP
Who needs charts? We already know which judge gives the most reasonable scores from when raocow played my level, remember? Like raocow said, everything in MaGL X2 is canon.Rednaxela wrote:Well, I mean... if you look at the charts I did, after you normalize for differing scoring curves, it shows pretty clearly that it's actually Sturg that is the least frequent to prop up or pull down a level by a large margin. I Read in a Book That in Hyrule, Fortresses Are More Like Hills:
Good things: Excellent attempt of Zelda in SMBX
Bad things: A bit bland graphically, but hey, it's a Zelda game.
Misc. comments: IT'S DANGEROUS TO GO ALONE! TAKE THIS.
You're Gonna Need a Bigger Goat:
Good things: Funny and complete level.
Bad things: Boss fight a bit tedious, too many faces in things
Misc comments: goats can look like hard drives

To be honest, I think your level was one of the best I have seen so far, definitely deserves its rank.
It was a nice little homage to the talkhaus and MaGL X, and that you nailed perfectly. (also it's kind of a cool feeling to see that my level was not entirely forgotten :,) )
You really don't need to be so harsh on yourself, what you did there was great!

Re: MaGL X2 - Horikawa x Updating the Thread OTP
Wellp, did a lot better than I thought I was going to. A looooot better. I've been watching the series go on and thinking, "Where's my level? Why are all these good levels getting played before it?! Did I skip the video where raocow played it?!?! Did they forget to put it in?!?!?!" I can now stop fretting.
Don't have much to say about the level itself; it was a product of trying to implement more of SMBX's features than I had last year (which wasn't a whole heckuva lot). I started out trying to capture personal experiences from growing up on a high-desert chaparral ranch, but it devolved into the goofiness you saw today. 'Nuf said; you're welcome for make.
