It's okay, we learned that
I liked that level a lot, and I liked the fact that the gameplay design wasn't really stifling in any way and that it gave you a steady supply of a strong powerup to let you run free with (and often get hurt because the level isn't stressful enough to make you more patient). It did really well for how long it was.

Dude, I Just Saw a Chateau in Zebes! I Gotta Tell My Mom!
Back-to-back Zebes, eh? (I guess? Maybe?) I don't think I expected a ghost house, though I suppose they are kinda chateau-esque. Nice ideas and sprite changes, (funny bone thwomps) though I guess some are kinda mismatched / used little. Toad's exchanges with the designer might've also been a bit too goofy, but this is still a cool level all around. Congrats on being next to the cleft, also.
100 episodes in, woooooo... It's been a blast so far, I say, and there's still a good deal left ahead to enjoy.

Re: MaGL X2 - They didn't realize at the time that friendship between opposite genders can totally exist
We passed the threshold of 100 videos! Now I get to review another level.
(I'd say more, but my mind's coming on blanks...)
(72nd) MonkeyShrapnel: Dude! I Just Saw a Chateau in Zebes! I Gotta Tell My Mom!
This feels like every section had quite a bit of thought into it. The para-Dry bones were weird, since they had alternate characteristics in their official debut, but it still makes sense. I wasn't a fan of Toad's banter... probably because he reminds me of a smarmy know-it-all teenager that's pretty annoying to deal with. (no naming names here, just in general) The level didn't have so many ideas that it bogged it down, but more of a centralizing theme would have helped this level out more. Good job here, regardless.

Ha ha ha, wow, I wish I had the Bone Thwomp graphics for Ocean Fish House last year, woulda fit right in.

Hm, I think this one would have benefited from a midpoint in the secret star path, too.

Having not been a big fan of MonkeyShrapnel's levels in A2XT, I was pleasantly surprised to have really enjoyed this one. I especially appreciate the level of polish and care that clearly went into designing the level's elements. In my opinion, MonkeyShrapnel has shown tremendous level design improvement in a fairly short span of time, and deserves kudos for that alone.

100th Video! How many more now before this becomes the longest LP in the history of the 'cow?
Commentary, Day 100 [Boo, a OLV for 100th? Bogus :c ];
72nd, MonkeyShrapnel: 'Dude, I just saw a chateau in Zebes! I gotta tell my mom!' - Great GFX changes and the version of the DKC underwater music was an interesting mix. The boss 'fight' was pretty funny. I loved the humor in this stage, and some of the design was pretty okay. Maybe a bit too long but otherwise pretty okay.

Fun Fact: The remix of the DKC 3 ocean song I used is actually a special high quality remix done by David Wise back in 2005, it was supposed to be used for E3 trailers but never ended up being used, then they got released a few years ago on the internet by an old Rare employee.

The Ghosthouse of Metroid's Past by MonkeyShrapnel
I've just been going through my level again and realised it would be super ironic if my level ended up being a one-level video. It sure has the potential to fall foul of the rule I've been thinking about, so uh, we'll see whether I get my comeuppance when the level appears. Oh boy. Can't wait for that to happen.

Re: MaGL X2 - SMB2 x MaGL X2 otp
So does this Zebes level take place in the far future of yesterday's, after the colony has been established long enough to leave behind haunted ruins of once-proud chateaus? Does it take place in the near future of yesterday's, the mother Toadette scolding her son for wandering too far from the safety of the colony and finding a chateau haunted by space pirate ghosts?
Is this the Toadette from Toadette Strikes? Is the Toad's father Agent T?
Mysteries abound.

Re: MaGL X2 - SMB2 x MaGL X2 otp
Alright, technical difficulties made this waaaaaay late, but I finally have the developer commentary video up for my level (y'know, the Birdo gameshow lake one.) It's been quite some time since that has passed, though, so I'll just leave it at that. Feel free to watch at your leisure~

Thank you! :D It's nice to hear the backstory behind these levels, it adds a new dimension to them (just like how the MAGL X Retrospective is a deeper analysis of level judging, developer commentary is an in-depth discussion of level design, which is pretty interesting!)RenaTurnip wrote: You have another one to look forward to when my MaGL level somehow gets eleventh place comes up tomorrow.
Well done on making it past, at the very least, episode 100!

Re: MaGL X2 - SMB2 x MaGL X2 otp
The boss is just as easy to "sword" with Peach as Mario. Only difference really is that you'll just need to tank a hit for it, and with the unlimited supply of ice power-ups that's no problem.

wtf that wasn't my level there must be some mistake horikwaa :(
in before people blame "way too much" boss fight on raocow just being incompetent I liked that level a lot and it felt a lot like a SMBxer level that also had a good amount of flavor and character to it. Also the five plants seemed like an easy sidequest to complete without being out of the way at all, which is cool :o (But what's with the red coins? I assumed the blocks were a pipe, but raocow never tried it...)

Link's Stronghold
This is pretty good! The areas are put together well and use some nice graphics. I like how the second star is like a side quest that overlaps with most of the level. Dark Link does take a bit of a while without swording, though.
I can see Link getting a stronghold with the rupees he accumulates. Would probably have to have one of those bigger wallets, though.

Mans, I really enjoined today's level! (Link's Fortress) If this is what we can expect from 70points up then I'm really excited.
Besides the story being kinda 'eh' and out of place the whole thing was amazing in flavor and fun to watch due to the great layout of the level. The outside grasslands were my favorite part though the castle was nice too be it the midpoint felt kinda deep into the fortress. (Did link build the midpoint there or something?). Heh, for one of these levels I want the plot to be that the ruler of the fortress is actually friendly and welcomes you with gifts of stars or something instead of long drawn out unnecessary boss fights.
