This feels like a hybrid of Mega Man, Contra, and Gradius. And wow, six parts in one stage.

I can't unsee Jet Gunner as being Sharkboy, and also can't unsee him as looking like a doofus.

The assistant robot guy's powerups are all lowercase greek letters, in case you hadn't figured that out yet.

this game seems like a nice change of pace from the frustration of Soldexus. just listen to how excited raocow sounds! it sure seems like he's havin' a lotta fun with this one

Re: Jet Gunner: Rocket Contra
So far this game most reminds me of Shatterhand to be completely honest
like the assistant robot feels like it was directly taken
I can see the contra and mega man inspirations as well; but I'm getting massive Shatterhand vibes
EDIT: nothing wrong with this of course, looks like a pretty neat game and it's nice to see raocow so happy and excited again

I find it funny that despite the flicker, the upper torso and gun are always there, like it's the most important sprite.

Trust me, this game gets very difficult. Wait until you see Stage 4.Wolfolotl wrote:this game seems like a nice change of pace from the frustration of Soldexus. just listen to how excited raocow sounds! it sure seems like he's havin' a lotta fun with this one
Also, if anyone wants this, it looks like Who's Gaming Now?! still has copies: http://whosgamingnow.net/giveaway/jetgunner
Re: Jet Gunner: Rocket Contra
Just remember, difficulty is not the same as frustration. It all depends on how it goes about it. A game can be as difficult or harder than Soldexus and far more enjoyable if it's careful about how it approaches difficulty. Because Soldexus was a first game, and the creator was inexperienced, it was very haphazard about it, and difficult games are hard to get right. It will be interesting to see a hard game that goes about it properly, which I hope this does.SAJewers wrote:Trust me, this game gets very difficult. Re: Jet Gunner: Rocket Contra
I picked this up on April 29 according to Steam. I only beat this yesterday.
It's not like Oniken (where I gave up on that game due to it's sheer difficulty) or a Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams (where a lot of people ended up Rage Quitting at the Final Boss), or anything, but I found it did hit that "Remember when Nintendo Games were hard?" note. Regardless, I do expect raocow to have lots of trouble on Stage 4 (you'll see if you play it).

Re: Jet Gunner: Rocket Contra
Classic Nintendo, for the most part, did difficulty pretty well. Two of the most important aspects are a learning curve and iteration times. As long as it doesn't start super hard and lets you learn the mechanics first, and doesn't take on the order of minutes to get back to where you died, it should be okay. It's a little more complex than that obviously, but those are the basic ideas behind good difficulty. From what you've said it sounds like it does it at least passably.SAJewers wrote:I found it did hit that "Remember when Nintendo Games were hard?" note. I really wish games wouldnt use sprite flicker for everthing for damage. not everything needs to be flashing.
also good choice in wallpaper

Can't say I'm that big a fan of the instantaneous transfers into the title screen/end-of-level screens.
Can't see those random powerups ever becoming an issue either, nope.

Yes! All of the this, I kept thinking 'wow, they crossed Shatterhand with Mega Man' through the entire video. I love both games, so this is no bad thing, but wow.Pikabread wrote:So far this game most reminds me of Shatterhand to be completely honest

Re: Jet Gunner: Nitro Gaiden
Moldorm was harder than Hat Man because it required a little more thought than "shoot gun"
Seems like a weird design decision to me!

I keep thinking the protagonist looks a lot like Sergio Aguero every time I see his portrait.

actually this game reminds me of B-wings for some of its power-up.
