Let's Play Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (COMPLETED)

Heya all, this is LuckySevenDX and welcome to my LP's

I'm new to the forum, and this place looks fun so I figured I'd go ahead and post some LP's here. Starting with the Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. This is actually my 4th LP (feel free to check out my channel for the other three if you want, they're all pretty fun). The game is for the Game Boy Color, released along with Oracle of Seasons near the end of its days (as in, the GameBoyAdvance was already out at the time), which perhaps makes its one of the more underrated Zelda titles. That said, its also my personal favorite of the top-down 2D Zelda games and I'm here to show you all why that is.

So the first thing you'll want to probably do is check out my Oracle of Seasons LP. Which is right here. Its also was my first LP, so excuse any lack of experience in there. This LP is actually a continuation of that of sorts, since I'm using the password you get at the end of seasons to basically be able to grab a bunch of extras in this playthrough as well as fight the final final boss of the game. However, Oracle of Ages is mostly indepedent of Seasons, so you don't have to watch it. You'll just get some minor spoilers for Seasons in the process.

Also, this will be updating roughly every other day, sometimes more, sometimes less. Usually I'll update my other current LP on days this doesn't though, so check out that topic if you want to.

Without further ado, here's the LP so far. Enjoy, and feel free to leave some comments or feedback or criticisms or whatnot where you please.

Well you've gained my approval anyhow. Ages is awesome (though I preferred Seasons myself, I think the whole "past to present, but not present to past" thing got me too much), and you have a great way of putting it across. Plus you must do a LOT of work off-camera :S

I always loved Oracle of Ages when I got it back then. It was fun.

Sorry for the delay in episodes. Long story short, my Windows blew up and I lost a lot of stuff. But now I'm back.. but not better than ever.

Now that I'm at school, I have paper-thin walls and roommates. Which doesn't go well together with people trying to study. So I'm going to try some more 'quiet' commentary. As in, the same intensity, but quieter. Those of you who watch this, please let me know if its that much of a step down. I felt like it turned out okay, and i'd prefer the freedom of recording whenever rather than bulk rushed recording in the few moments I get alone. But if its bad, I'll do that.

Anyway, new episode!

It's not bad, that's for sure. Whether or not it could be improved basically comes down to your recording set-up.

Do you record the narration separately from the main video? Because if you DO then what you might consider is using audio editing software like Audacity to amplify the narrative with respect to the video volume, which would allow you essentially to talk quieter but still keep a good volume on the final product.

If you don't, I guess you could use some program to extract the audio from your video and do it that way, but that's way too much effort for what would really only be a marginal improvement (considering you have to rip the game audio out as well). The only thing I would say that is "bad" about your set-up at the moment is that you are talking quieter and the game is at the same volume, which means that the game is basically as loud as you. Which means it's harder to pick you out, lol.

Yeah, I've been tinkering with Audacity to make me louder. Its just that I'm more apt to 'mumble' when talking like this, so that's usually the only problem. At this point, I think I have it down enough where the audio levels aren't too bad though. The problem with making the commentary volume louder is that it makes some background noise louder as well... which is a problem I should be solving soon.

Glad to hear it isn't bad though.

Seventh dungeon will finish going up today, so I'll link to it here when the second part is up later.

Well if you have your own solution then awesome. But note that Audacity has a Noise Removal function built into it as well - smart use of that will help to eliminate background noise (probably including distortion from your mic if use it well - so long as you don't remove too much your voice won't sound artificial/tinny, so I use that for my own videos :P)

Of course if you already do that then ignore me, I'm just throwing out ideas here since you've expressed a will to improve your videos ^_^

Yeah, I use Noise Removal, but sometimes I'm stuck between background distortion or voice distortion with that. Usually I do the background route, as a lot of it vanishes in publishing usually.

That being said, should be solved very soon, as I'm going to get an much better mic.
