The ground tiles you see in cave levels do that, for some reason. You can make it happen in a few levels of the original game, like Vanilla Dome 2, if you glitch things just right. People typically don't like it when that effect happens...

I've always interpreted the glitch-tiles dry bones' face as being wet with blood. That's not dry at all!

I'm still sort of wondering about Black Ice. Are there seriously people who make an entry for a contest without even testing it once? Because that's just about the only explanation I can come up with for those incredibly obvious glitches.

Still, I've been playing this myself, and there's a lot of really good levels in there. Expect things to pick up quite a bit once raocow gets out of the worst world.

Also, since I imagine I'm not the only one who enjoys reading these, here are the judges' comments for today's levels.

COMMENTS: Unfortunately, this level suffers from a few really major flaws. The big problem is that there are next to no sprites in the main area, meaning there are no threats besides the lava. On top of that, the aesthetics are really distracting (the BG especially), and in turn cause the level to be frustrating to get through. Also, there are so many Boos during the Big Boo fight that you can't actually pick up the throw blocks.

The only thing it has to it is the backtracking to get the P-Switch, a short (but rather boring) run and the Big Boo boss which is spammed with Boos, and some of those are invisible causing unfairness.

Comments: This is hot-themed hot mess. The background has terrible contrast and can be easily mistaken for solid ground, horrible miscolred bone/door tiles, the "gameplay" itself isn't even bare bones, pointless arbitrary "item babysitting," and poor sprite memory in the boss rom which makes it nearly impossible to pick up Throw Blocks because there's a ton of Boos on the screen.

Oh, and the palette is hurrbull.

D-D.... did you even playtest this at all?
