Were the Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze any good? I've read some mixed reviews on them.

Ehh... Having played the original DKC games when I was younger, I found the newer ones kinda dull in comparison. Maybe it's partially just nostalgia, but they just didn't seem as good.

Also, good job overcoming your fear/dislike of bad graphics and monkeys Horikawa!

Wow, that was about as bad as that ripoff of SMW that raocow did awhile back. Possibly even worse seeing as the hit detection was all over the place.

Horikawa's fears are validated with this game

Returns is "a good game" I guess but personally I just found it to be an absolute slog until it got difficult enough to be at all engaging (i.e. world 5), a problem I don't have with the original trilogy or what I've played of Tropical Freeze. I dunno if the problem is the motion controls RUINING MY IMMERSION or the music being super bland and unmemorable or what I just know I really did not enjoy that game at all for the first half of it.

Move over Stickerbush Symphony, The Donkey Kong Song (That Is Totally Not a Mario Song) is the real best song in the series.

I thought this was a romhack at first due to the repetitive tilesets and stuff, but after a bit of research it revealed an actual game that exists and I never knew about

How did this level make it past the sewer? Jeez.

I have no clue what the game maker was going for (except maybe "how do I get money out of stupid people" I guess...). The terrible hit detection makes everything feel like luck.

And the song hurts my head after awhile @.@ It's not as good as when I watched someone play Sonic the Hedgehog Omochoa Edition

They're not as good as the original DKCs but they are much better than NSMB

Anyway this LP. Well then. Does SDK99 have a roll? Because that will help you.
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

My first thought while watching the video was "man, Horikawa sure hates herself to be playing this", but apparently it's that raocow hates you instead. Okay, got it.

Also, someone help me get that music out of my brain.

I didn't hear any major problems with your recording, and it was an entertaining watch. I just hope you're ready for the horror that is to come in this game...

Like that one boss that is actually unbeatable without a gameshark code.

Returns was mostly hindered by its control scheme on the Wii version (And then occasional framerate drops on the 3DS port), and a couple too many mine cart/rocket levels, but otherwise was really good. Tropical Freeze was absolutely fantastic and I'd actually put it above the country games personally.

DKC: The Lost Levels featuring Michael Jackson. No seriously, is that an edited "whoo" sound clip from Moonwalker on the title screen?

My god what the hell did I just watch? I hope you don't use this as an excuse to play a proper DKC one day Horikawa. :P

Also opinions, the Returns series is fine, Tropical Freeze is bloody great though, even has David Wise back for the score.
