Re: Super Meat Boy - gimmick retrospective town
Hopscotch is by far the worst level in the game, IMHO. Let's take the worst gimmick in the entire game and make it your sole leg to stand on? No thanks, I'd rather take any single level of dark rapture over that nonsense. The dark world version is also somehow easier.
Four Letter Word would be a damn good level if it didn't save its dick move for last. It's not just raocow, those half-tile jumps are distilled hatred in platforming form. And to be fair to Cotton Alley, its laziness on a handful of levels doesn't show quite as badly in the light world.
And I never said laziness or lack of creativity characterized the entire world. It's just a general thing Edmund always does that irritates me. Instead of cherry picking his best levels to keep in the game, he just shoves the ones that are too difficult or unfun to keep in the main game into a bonus chapter. Every time. Cotton Alley is far from the worst example, but it's a recurring habit that irks me.

Does Saxxy just sit at his/her computer opening and closing Payday 2?
Re: Super Meat Boy - finished on schedule, what's ahead is shrouded in darkness
Repulsors and wind are unreliable garbage not suitable for a precision platformer, because the influence of where and when exactly you enter/leave their area of effect is so high that results are near impossible to reproduce.
I'd find Hopscotch super fun as a little interlude in a different game where you don't die in one hit, but here it's just tedious crap. I still couldn't be assed to beat it.
I did Oob's Revenge by going on the lower platforms and leaving the squares intact for my return trip. Took me quite a few attempts, and it was surprising to see rao beat it so quickly.
The Rash is a fun level, though I found the downward button near the middle annoyingly placed.
I found the name of 4 Letter Word so daunting that I never got to the low ceiling part - it certainly explains the level's name and reputation. Don't think I'm gonna finish Cotton Alley anytime soon, then...
Low ceiling jumps come up a bit more in
What's with that one third bar? Did a sawblade not spawn there?
I've had issues with eyes not spawning before.
"Neck" is certainly a four-letter word.

You did it! You finished the easy part of the game!
Wooooooohooooo!
Next time: Dark Forest. You will certainly enjoy the peace compared to what you have been through.

There's just no sawblade placed there.Octagon wrote: What's with that one third bar? Did a sawblade not spawn there?

Huh 7-20 is more zoomed in than 7-19. Was this present before and I just didn't notice?

Actually, there are different zoom "factors" for each level. Some levels have your character be very tiny (most Warpzones got that) and in some levels you seem to be very big. (the only one that comes in mind for me is Dark Cotton Alley 1, but there are many more.)ano0maly wrote:Huh 7-20 is more zoomed in than 7-19. Was this present before and I just didn't notice?

I've noticed for the warpzones, since those tend to have a different console feel, but I haven't realized it in the main levels.

honestly we're more than halfway through, the dark world is -overall- harder but caocow has gotten through all the top hardest levels already. Skyscraper, The Kid's Warp, Four Letter Word all down. None of the dark stages or their warps (or
glitch levels
) really match those.i've honestly never played a video game in my life

Re: Super Meat Boy - finished on schedule, what's ahead is shrouded in darkness
Hopskotch is the worst use of repulsor orbs. They're not so bad when stationary but when moving they're just the worst thing. Also Four Letter Word is the only level in Light Cotton Alley I never beat because I'm awful at those one tile high saw jumps. I said lots of four letter words trying to beat that one.

the one that took me the longest was #3, and even then that was maybe 15-20 minutes of trying over and overHorikawa Otane wrote:idk, there was at least one glitch level that took me ALMOST as long as Skyscraper as I recall.Parama wrote:honestly we're more than halfway through, the dark world is -overall- harder but caocow has gotten through all the top hardest levels already. I dunno how long #1 or #2 took because I did them ages ago but if I did them ages ago they couldn't have been that hard
#5 is the only other hard-ish one, I think #6 took me like 3 tries total, it was a joke
I don't think any of them are comparable to skyscraper or the kid or most of dark rapture or cotton alley though, they only have length on their side and not much else

Hey raocow, you know you need to A+ at least 85 Dark World levels to gain access to True Final Boss, right?
Just kinda wondering.

Here's something I wanna know about the Dark World: If a bandage is in a light level, does that mean one won't be in its dark counterpart and vice-versa? I've always kinda assumed that, and I'd like to know if there's any truth to it.

Re: Super Meat Boy - finished on schedule, what's ahead is shrouded in darkness
That thing where the end level animation plays twice as fast is a small animation bug that occurs when there is more than one Bandage Girl in a level. (Yes, seriously, this game had some weird development.) I guess Dr. Fetus has to kidnap them both, so he has to hustle. :P
Also, the difficulty of the glitch warps is completely non-correlated to its position in the game. The one you played today is probably one of the hardest, and the last one of the game is generally considered the easiest one to beat. (The most tedious to unlock, to be sure.)
Also, you don't need 85 A+ grades to get into the dark world boss that's been completely spoiled for you. Only need to beat 85 levels.

I'm like 90% sure that you don't in fact need to A+ them. You just need to complete them.went wrote:Hey raocow, you know you need to A+ at least 85 Dark World levels to gain access to True Final Boss, right?

I'm happy raocow chose to keep the dark world for the end cause it's really nice seeing so many levels done quickly after the pretty long end game stuff.

You are just shreading through these levels, wow. Much more graceful than when I did them. Granted, I did them right after I was done with the normal forest, but wow. Getting the glitch world on accident when you only had 50% completion was pretty impressive, considering for most people she doesn't show up at all until you get about 80% for that world.
Quick thing, you missed a bandage in Creamsoda. Very hard to see unless you are looking for it.
