I probably could have done it eventually but I wasn't finding it very fun.

Yeah, Patience is without doubt the worst level in the game. It's lazily designed, it's tedious, it's not fun, it's completely centered around the worst level gimmick...

I vaguely remember someone saying there was a safe spot in it, or at least a "stay in one place and jump" spot. Even if that's true, though, getting the key looked really tough.

Bluuuurrgh. Patience was probably my least favorite stage in the game. Yes, there *is* a semi-safe spot if you stand on one of the blocks on the side and time your jumps (one ar-mega-don missile won't launch, and the other two will harmlessly hit blocks), but even doing that took me a long time, since it's very precise. Jump too soon or too late, and a missile will sneak past the blocks and kill you. Not a fun stage in the slightest.

Incidentally, though, seeing them back-to-back (I basically played the stages more or less randomly, myself), I just noticed that 20/20 and Patience seem to have almost the exact same room layout, barring objects and the row of locked doors.

It's annoying because even if you know exactly what you need to do it's a pain in the ass to actually do it unlike most levels.

Like Yelsey said, there is a kinda safe spot. If you stand on one of the blocks on either side you're safe so long as you time a jump so that the missiles slam into the block slightly above you. I had less of an issue with timing than Yelsey though it seems. I figured out the safe spot on accident then continuously struggled at two different points. Getting the key was the first because timing it so you don't jump into a missile or get hit by one of the splitting dealios wasn't very easy. The second one was actually getting into Meat Boy's tube. I can't tell you how many times I ran into it only to have one of the splitting things come across and whack me in the head or fall in just in time for one of the missiles to follow me in and kill me before I could touch Meat Boy.

I am looking forward to the end of Cotton Alley to see if anything in this game can actually make raocow do a failure run/sneak preview. Other than that one thing about your framerate and fullscreen/windowed mode that I'm sure everyone's warned him about at least three million times, I think he's good to go.

The problem with patience is that it's just a fundamentally boring level. One of those cases I can definitely agree with the 'romhacky' label for Cotton Alley.

if you let go of the run button at the top of 7-19x you can pretty easily keep moving and jump at the right time to get through it
it's not "easy' but certainly easier than doing it that way since you never have to stop

Fun fact: "They Bite" was one of those rare stages I somehow managed to luck into completing on my first attempt. No idea how I did it. But man, those "survive for a long time while very hard to avoid monsters flood the screen" stages are just the worst.

Also, not that it matters, since raocow already did it, but most people I've found seem to consider 7-19x harder than 7-20x.

My opinion on Cotton Alley is... honestly, it feels like a lot of disjointed stages that were meant for other parts of the game, but were rejected for various reasons, and instead of being removed entirely, they were reskinned (and probably slightly touched up to be harder) and added to a bonus world. That would go a long way in explaining why they feel so... lazy compared to the rest of the game.

raocow has now earned bragging rights for getting A+ rank on everything in the light cotton alley, and fully beating the dark cotton alley. I see there was no glitch level in the bonus world. That last level was definitely better and more balanced than the dark world version.

i still say light cotton alley is harder than dark cotton alley though only by a little
7-16 is harder than 7-16x and 7-20 is harder than 7-20x and maybe that's why I think so, I dunno
The fan level is easier in dark cotton alley too

I don't remember the last boss being that long. I'm not sure if it warrants it's own video if you can beat it in under ten minutes.
Edit: It's probably good to avoid fatigue, depending on how the earlier two levels go.

I thought ninja meat boy was just another skin for him, like the 8 and 4 bit things, but actually he has a couple cool abilities.

He can run without holding down the run button, and when you press the run button, you teleport.
